Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Rush! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Swoop McCarthy! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCarthy lands a jab to the head.
McCarthy clinches up against the cage. McCarthy prevents the takedown attempt.
Rush goes for a takedown attempt but McCarthy pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Rush keeps the fight on the outside. Nice sprawl there from McCarthy as Rush shoots in. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Rush. That's going to take a lot out of him. Rush decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. McCarthy is trying to control but can't.
Rush trying to pass the guard but McCarthy defending well. McCarthy really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Rush. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. McCarthy trying to hold on to Rush's head to control him but Rush postures up.
McCarthy looks like he's trying to stand up.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rush looks to score some points with some ground and pound. Rush stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows McCarthy to get to his feet. Rush gets the takedown into side control. Rush takes a little break here. McCarthy wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rush grinds an elbow into McCarthy's temple. Rush has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand. Nice uppercut there from McCarthy. Rush closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. McCarthy tries to get back to half guard but can't. A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Rush thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Rush tries for a kimura but McCarthy is defending well. Rush is staying tight to McCarthy's torso, preventing him from escaping.
That's four minutes gone in the round. An elbow from Rush crashes against the mat.
Rush is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. McCarthy is trying to escape and Rush transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and McCarthy is forced to tap! Nice work there by Rush! Very nice indeed!
