Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Rod Melendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Marcus Montross (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marcus Montross is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rod Melendez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Marcus Montross! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Gregory Folan and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Montross throws a combination that misses and Melendez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Montross's guard. Melendez trying to control but Montross is working from the bottom. Melendez throws a strike but Montross rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Montross throws a strike but Melendez rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Melendez wants to control from the top but Montross keeps moving. Melendez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Melendez got a little sloppy there for a moment and Montross has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Melendez has managed to get both his arms back between Montross's legs - danger averted. Montross really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Melendez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's one minute gone in the round. Melendez postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head. Montross can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Melendez controls the pace. Melendez with a nice head shot there. Montross has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Melendez is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Montross. Melendez cracks Montross with a big elbow. Melendez lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Melendez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Melendez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Melendez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! Montross looks gassed! This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Melendez cracks Montross with a big elbow.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Melendez landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. A big shot lands for Melendez! That's hurt Montross! Will he recover? Melendez fires away with more strikes and the referee has to step in to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:31 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Rod Melendez!
