The judges for this bout are Wagner Zegers, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Groot throws a hook but Van Persie blocks it.
Groot connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
It looks like Robin Van Persie has been cut.
Groot blocks a head kick by Van Persie.
Groot lands a right hook to the body.
Groot tries to clinch but Van Persie moves away
and Van Persie counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Groot's guard now.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Groot tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Groot controls Van Persie momentarily but Van Persie frees himself.
Groot wants to stand but Van Persie is controlling the position.
Van Persie thows a big elbow that misses.
Groot had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Van Persie defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Groot tries to kick Van Persie off but Van Persie keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Groot tries to get to full guard but Van Persie has control of the leg.
Van Persie is looking for a kimura but Groot is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Van Persie to get the leverage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
Groot regains full guard. Nicely done.
Van Persie really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Groot. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Groot is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Van Persie has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Groot is working away from the top position though.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Van Persie is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Van Persie is refusing to be controlled, as Groot sits in half guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Groot is really struggling to control Van Persie but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ramon Groot.
Groot lands a big head kick that sends Van Persie tumbling to the mat! Groot takes a step backwards and waves Van Persie back to his feet - he wants the finish!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Groot - that will leave a mark!
Groot lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.
That has opened up Robin Van Persie's cut even more.
Groot throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Groot scores with a shot to the body.
Groot feints a jab promting Van Persie to slip. Groot then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Van Persie slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
Van Persie is rocked!
Groot swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Groot feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Van Persies jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Groot lands with a good body shot.
Groot connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Groot scores with a shot to the body.
Groot tries to close the distance and clinch up but Van Persie swats him away and circles back towards the center.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Groot smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.

Van Persie fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Groot to the ground. Van Persie is now in Groot's guard.

Groot pulls Van Persie in close to his closed guard and prevents Van Persie from doing any damage or advancing position.
Van Persie prevents Groot from getting back to his feet.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Groot lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Van Persie!
Groot looking to control but Van Persie is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Van Persie can do anything to dispel that myth.
Groot get's back to his feet.
Groot tries a head kick but it misses.
Groot throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Van Persie stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Groot feints and then cracks Van Persie's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Van Persie down.
Groot explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

Groot swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Groot moves in looking to clinch but Van Persie pushes him off.

Robin Van Persie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

A looping hook to the body misses from Groot. Van Persie does a little dance to reset his feet.

so Van Persie counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Van Persie is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Van Persie is looking to work some ground and pound but Groot has wrist control.

Groot wants to clinch up but Van Persie keeps it at a distance.

Van Persie changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Groot looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Groot fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Van Persie.
Groot ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Van Persie moves away.
A jab from Groot finds it's way through Van Persie's defenses.

Groot throws a body kick that digs right into the meat.

Groot rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Van Persie moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Van Persie's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Groot thuds his right hand into Van Persie's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Groot jabs Van Persie right on the nose. Van Persie blinks but takes it well.
Van Persie doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.
Horrible takedown by Van Persie or perhaps it was just good defense by Groot which made him look bad.
Groot connects with a leg kick. Van Persie looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Groot has taken the fight to the clinch.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Van Persie got a little sloppy there for a moment and Groot has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Van Persie has managed to get both his arms back between Groot's legs - danger averted.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Groot holds on and takes a little breather.

Van Persie wants to pass to mount but Groot is defending the position.

Groot manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Van Persie manages to get himself to full guard.

Groot slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Van Persie.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Groot, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
