PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Damien Thorne (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Schulz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thorne comes to the cage accompanied by Carmina Burana - O Fortuna. Schulz is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by ONYX - Raze it up. Mark Schulz acknowledges the crowd's support as he enters the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Schulz!
The judges for this bout are Aafke Stam, Paul Aken and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schulz misses with an uppercut.
Thorne bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Schulz's head backwards.
Thorne throws a looping overhand right but Schulz ducks down to avoid it.
Schulz misses with a lunging right hand
letting Thorne counter with a right hand.
Thorne throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Schulz on the side of the head.
Schulz throws a body punch but Thorne moves out of range.
Schulz pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Schulz misses with a looping left.
Thorne changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.

Thorne drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Thorne slips nicely into half guard.
Thorne thows a huge punch but Schulz dodges it nicely.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Thorne in particular looking to stall.
Schulz wants to get back to full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Thorne scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Thorne looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Thorne is figuring out what he wants to do next.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Thorne lands a nice short elbow.
Thorne throwing shots but Schulz is blocking nicely.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Thorne working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Schulz avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Thorne.

Still in half guard, Thorne seems content to control.
Thorne seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Schulz for as long as he can get away with.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Thorne landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Thorne throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Thorne looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Schulz with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Schulz wants to get back to full guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Thorne in particular looking to stall.
Thorne trying to pass the guard but Schulz defending well.

Thorne takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Schulz tries to roll over but Thorne keeps him under control.
Thorne throwing shots but Schulz is blocking nicely.
Thorne with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Thorne has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Schulz really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Thorne. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Schulz is trying to get back to full guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Thorne sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Schulz's guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Damien Thorne dominated that round.

Schulz falls off balance throwing a combination
and Thorne counters with a lovely straight right hand!
A jab from Thorne does it's job there.
Thorne throws out a loose jab but Schulz uses good head movement to avoid it.
Mark Schulz seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Thorne cracks Schulz with a good jab.
Schulz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Thorne circles away quickly and effectively.
Thorne swinging wildly here.
Thorne shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Schulz sprawls well. Schulz wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Thorne gets slowly back to his feet.

Thorne misses with a double jab.
Schulz throws an off balance right hand
and Thorne counters with a nice uppercut.
Thorne lands a nice looking body shot.

Mark Schulz is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Thorne connects with a looping right hand.

enabling Thorne to counter with a crisp jab.
Thorne throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Schulz throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Schulz is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.
Schulz wants to land a leg kick but Thorne is out of range.
Thorne bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Thorne is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Schulz uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Thorne.

Thorne wants to control from the top but Schulz keeps moving.

Thorne lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Thorne is working Schulz over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Thorne is stalling in the full guard.
Thorne with a flurry of punches that miss.
Thorne throws and elbow that misses. Schulz uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Thorne's guard. Nice move by Schulz!

Schulz stands up over his opponent, looking to dive in with a big punch. Here he comes, superman style! Oh, the punch misses and Thorne has got him in a triangle choke for good measure! Oh no! Schulz manages to get his head free but now Thorne has transitioned to an armbar! Schulz grimaces and is forced to tap! Beautiful Jiu Jitsu from Thorne! I'd be surprised if that didn't end up as submission of the night!
