Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Rodrigo Mangabeira! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Asher Lee! The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Luis Engracia and Thiago Cunha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mangabeira is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.
Lee throws a right hand that misses
and Mangabeira counters with a nice double leg into guard. Mangabeira throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Lee is trying to keep Mangabeira in close.
Mangabeirais looking to pass into half guard but Lee pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Lee is in guard. Mangabeira manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Lee manages to get himself to full guard.
Lee keeping full guard, as Mangabeira tries to pass. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Mangabeira is working hard here to advance position. Mangabeira is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Mangabeira postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Lee is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Mangabeira, into his guard.
That's one minute gone in the round. Mangabeira seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Lee trying to stand up but can't free himself from Mangabeira's guard. Lee looking to pass the guard. Mangabeira has his hands on Lee's head, controlling the position. Mangabeira's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Rodrigo Mangabeira wasn't doing enough on the ground. Mangabeira gets in close and instigates a clinch. Mangabeira wants a takedown but no success here.
Mangabeira keeps control of Lee as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Mangabeira breaks the clinch.
Lee misses with a straight right. Mangabeira is looking to clinch but Lee is avoiding it.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight. Lee misses with a hook
and Mangabeira counters by moving into the clinch. Mangabeira taking a breather. Mangabeira escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed right hand from Lee misses the target. Mangabeira looks to clinch and Mangabeira takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Mangabeira tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Lee manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Mangabeira tries to clinch but Lee moves away and Mangabeira takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Rodrigo Mangabeira dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!
Lee with a hook. Mangabeira moves in looking to clinch but Lee pushes him off. Mangabeira tries to clinch but Lee moves out of range. Mangabeira wants to clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mangabeira wants to clinch up but Lee keeps it at a distance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lee misses with a left hand and Mangabeira decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Lee's guard. Mangabeira loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Mangabeira drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mangabeira jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Mangabeira wants to pass the guard but Lee is keeping the position. Mangabeira forces his way into half guard. Lee taking some punishment here, with Mangabeira in his half guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Mangabeira passes to full mount! Mangabeira jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Lee is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Lee and Mangabeira has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.
Mangabeira working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. Lee tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Mangabeira wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Mangabeira tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Lee is not content to let Mangabeira control the position. Mangabeira swings around for an armbar but Lee sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Mangabeira's guard. Mangabeira wants to sweep here but Lee controlling him for the moment. Mangabeira is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

That's four minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Mangabeira is adopting a defensive guard. Mangabeira working a defensive guard here.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup. Lee wants to get up but he can't break Mangabeira's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
We're going to have a standup here because Rodrigo Mangabeira wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Lee misses with a series of wild punches.

Mangabeira ducks under a wild hook from Lee. Lee swats away the attempt to clinch by Mangabeira. Lee looks to score with a combo but nothing lands. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lee misses with a right hand and Mangabeira moves into the clinch.

and Mangabeira counters with a lovely straight right hand! Mangabeira closes this distance looking for a takedown but Lee circles away. Mangabeira moves in looking to clinch but Lee pushes him off. Mangabeira fails with an attempt to clinch.
Rodrigo Mangabeira is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Mangabeira seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Lee for as long as he can get away with. We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Rodrigo Mangabeira just wasn't active enough. Lee misses with an uppercut
and Mangabeira counters into the clinch. Nicely done. Lee works for underhooks and lands a body shot in the process.
Mangabeira is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Lee wants to break the clinch but can't.
Asher Lee has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Mangabeira's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Lee throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Lee misses with a hook. Mangabeira ducked under it nicely.
And that's the end of the fight! Rodrigo Mangabeira showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Mangabeira, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
