Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Terence Kelly! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ces Quintana! The judges for this bout are Skip Squint, Steve Erwin and Winston Howard.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Quintana throws a right hand that misses
and Kelly counters with a lovely shot to the body. Quintana misses with a lunging right hand
and Kelly counters with a shoot takedown. Quintana fights it but they end up in guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Kelly works a leg free and moves into half guard. Quintana wants to get back to his feet.
Kelly moves nicely into side control. Kelly taking a breather here. Quintana takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kelly happy to just control the position for now. Kelly will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Kelly in side control lands a decent elbow. Kelly taking a breather here. Kelly connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Quintana some visible discomfort.
Kelly has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Quintana taking a bit of punishment here - Kelly scoring with strikes. Quintana seems a little lost for a moment, as Kelly dominates the positioning. Kelly lands a few punches from side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quintana is working to avoid the ground and pound but Kelly connects with a decent elbow. Kelly decides to stand back up. Kelly feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Quintana really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kelly. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Kelly throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Kelly controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling. Kelly slips effortlessly into side control - very nice. Quintana wants to get back to his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelly is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Quintana's shoulder. That is not cool. Kelly working the ground and pound from side control. Kelly controlling the position from side mount. The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Quintana is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Kelly has just dragged him back down to the mat.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Quintana is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Quintana looks gassed! Quintana being controlled for a moment. Kelly decides to take the fight back to the feet. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Kelly tries to clinch but fails miserably letting Quintana counter with a right hand. A shot to the body from Quintana misses so Kelly counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Kelly works a leg free and moves into half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
John Terence Kelly dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Kelly gets the takedown into side control. Quintana is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here. Kelly landing strikes. Kelly prevents Quintana from escaping the position. Kelly is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Quintana's shoulder. That is not cool. Kelly tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Kelly has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought! A lull in the action here. Quintana is breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kelly is trying to get an arm triangle but Quintana is defending well. Kelly takes a little break here. Quintana wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well. Check out the look on Kelly's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kelly decides to stand up, so the ref orders Quintana to his feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Quintana throws a right hand that misses
letting Kelly counter with a right hand. Kelly fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Quintana avoids it really well and circles away. Kelly really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Quintana throws a lazy uppercut
and Kelly counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Quintana is rocked! Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Kelly gets to his feet - Quintana follows without any prompting. Quintana throws an ugly left hook that misses
so Kelly counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. Quintana is still in real trouble! Can Kelly finish him? Kelly gets to his feet - Quintana follows without any prompting. Quintana circles away from the clinch attempt.
Quintana seems to have recovered his senses. Quintana misses with a hook
and Kelly counters with a shoot takedown into half guard. Quintana on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kelly works his way into side control. Kelly stands up and we're back to a striking position. Quintana throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Kelly counters with a straight that turns Quintana's legs to rubber! Kelly pushes forward with more strikes and Quintana goes down, battered and bloody! That's a wrap folks!
