PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sonny Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Saint George (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Boy comes to the cage accompanied by Those Dancin Days - Run Run. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Sonny Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Saint George!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boy misses with an uppercut
and George makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Boy misses with a left hand

and George counters with a single leg into guard. Boy didn't expect that.
George loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Boy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for George on the ground.

George drops back, looking for a kneebar! Boy looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Boy looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Boy!
George sneaks back into half guard.
Well, if Boy is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

George wants to get back to full guard.
George is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
George is staying active underneath Boy, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sonny Boy.

George feints and as Boy raises his hands in defense, George changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
George wants to pass the guard but Boy is keeping the position.
Boy controlling the position.
George landing with the ground and pound.
George throws and elbow that misses. Boy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in George's guard. Nice move by Boy!

George wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sonny Boy.

and George counters with a single leg into guard. Boy didn't expect that.
Boy wants to sweep but no luck.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Boy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
George passes into half guard.

Boy pushes George off looking to stand but George dives back in and keeps control.

George is looking to pass Boy's guard but actually Boy recovers to full guard.

George has gone for a leg lock! Boy slips out almost immediately though and dives into George's guard.

Saint George dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Boy misses with a wild body shot.

Boy gets caught napping as George dives in and scores a takedown. Boy manages to retain guard.
George trying to control but Boy is working from the bottom.
Boy trying to control the position.
Boy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Boy keeping moving, preventing George from controlling successfully.
Boy is trying to keep George in close.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
George tries to free his leg and advance position but Boy is retaining full guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Sonny Boy.
Boy thows a leg kick but George checks it
and George cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Boy misses with a lunging right hand
and George counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Boy looks to land a combination. George sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Boy throws a predictable looking body shot

and George counters with a shoot takedown. Boy fights it but they end up in guard.
George postures up in Boy's guard and throws a big left but Boy blocks it.
George postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
George trying to control the position from guard on top but Boy is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
George trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

George in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
George throws a strike but Boy rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

George had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Boy defends it easily.
George wants to improve his position but instead Boy has moved into half guard.

George is refusing to be controlled, as Boy sits in half guard.
George is looking to improve his position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
George is trying to control but Boy manages to pass to mount!
George is in all sorts of trouble here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Saint George showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Boy throws a head kick that misses.
Boy throws a body punch but George moves out of range.
George misses the shot to the body.
George throws a series of strikes that have Boy backpedaling.
Boy throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Boy throws a lazy body kick

and George counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
George has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
George postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
George looking to pass the guard.

Boy avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

George is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
George won't allow Boy to sweep him here.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
George slips nicely into half guard.
Boy is trying to control but can't.
George thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

George wants to pass the guard but Boy is defending well.

Sonny Boy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
George is keen to just control but Boy is a slippery customer.

Boy moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Saint George is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
George stops Boy from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
George not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Saint George has got the better of the ground game so far.
George slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Saint George comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well George has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
