PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Edgar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diggs Eugene (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Diggs Eugene is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Mark Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Diggs Eugene!
The judges for this bout are Albert Achterberg, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Edgar doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Eugene counters with a shoot takedown. Edgar fights it but they end up in guard.

Eugene stands up and waves to Edgar to follow him.
Edgar scores with a sloppy right hand. Eugene should have avoided that one.

Eugene has managed to clinch.
Eugene keeps control of Edgar as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks.
Edgar is trying to break free.
Edgar looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.

Eugene decides to pull guard.
Edgar stopping the sweep attempt from Eugene.
Edgar wants to control from the top but Eugene keeps moving.
Edgar missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.

Eugene is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Eugene is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Edgar trying to control the position from guard on top but Eugene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Eugene tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Eugene fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Edgar, pushing him back against the cage.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Edgar tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Edgar is trying to push Eugene away but Eugene has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.

Eugene breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Edgar shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Eugene counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Eugene.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Mark Edgar. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Eugene landing with the ground and pound.
Eugene is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Eugene stands up from Edgar's guard - Eugene perhaps looking for a knockout.

Eugene moves into range and clinches up with Edgar.

Eugene blocks a couple of punches on the inside.
Edgar tries to score a body lock takedown but Eugene shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Eugene gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Edgar regains guard.
Eugene sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Eugene must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Edgar has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Eugene can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Eugene passes Edgar's left leg - he's now in half guard.

Eugene is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Edgar trying to control from the bottom.
Edgar flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Eugene is trying to work for a kimura but Edgar is defending well.
Eugene seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diggs Eugene dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!



Eugene has Edgar up against the cage in a clinch.
Eugene keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Edgar's efforts to push away.
Eugene lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Edgar jumps guard but Eugene stands there with Edgar around his waist. Edgar gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
Edgar is trying to force a seperation but Eugene has the dominant position.

Eugene has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Eugene wants to sweep here but Edgar controlling him for the moment.
Edgar trying to control the position from guard on top but Eugene is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Edgar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Eugene has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Edgar off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Eugene gets a double leg takedown into Edgar's guard.

Eugene avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Edgar controls Eugene momentarily but Eugene frees himself.
Eugene content to stall in guard here.

Edgar working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Eugene has passed into half guard!
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Eugene prevents Edgar from standing back up.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Eugene controlling the action here.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Diggs Eugene was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Edgar misses with a takedown attempt

and Eugene counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Eugene thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Edgar has an active guard here but Eugene has managed to pass into half guard.

Eugene content to control rather than advance.
Eugene frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Eugene controlling from the full mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diggs Eugene showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! This is the final round!



Edgar gets caught napping as Eugene dives in and scores a takedown. Edgar manages to retain guard.
Edgar looking for a sweep. Not yet Edgar, not yet.
Edgar not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Edgar wants to sweep here but Eugene controlling him for the moment.
Eugene not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Eugene works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Eugene stalling.
Let's hope that Eugene has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

That's one minute gone in the round.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Edgar tries to roll over but Eugene keeps him under control.
Edgar won't allow Eugene to pass to mount.
Eugene working the head and body with strikes.
Edgar is looking for a sweep. Eugene is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Eugene takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Diggs Eugene hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
Edgar misses with a series of wild punches.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Edgar doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Eugene counters with a single leg into guard. Edgar didn't expect that.
Diggs Eugene has got the better of the ground game so far.
Eugene controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Eugene passes into half guard.
Eugene frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Edgar keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Eugene controlling the pace for now.
Eugene has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Edgar's face.
Eugene raining down shots from the mount!
Eugene takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Eugene breaks from Edgar's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Eugene prevents Edgar from getting the reversal.
Eugene lands a big elbow.
Eugene content just to control the position here.
Eugene unloading with bombs!

And that's the end of the fight!
Diggs Eugene comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Eugene winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
