PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Karol Karol (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Joe Layon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karol is coming into this fight with a significant injury, which will no doubt have an effect on his cardio. Joe Layon will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Karol Karol!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Joe Layon!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Stewart Dunkirk and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Layon wants to clinch up but Karol keeps it at a distance.
Karol is breathing heavily.

Layon drops Karol with a right and a left! Layon comes rushing in but Karol regains his composure and manages to keep Layon in guard.


Karol is rocked!


It looks like Karol Karol has been cut.
Layon passes into half guard.
Oh Karol is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Karol really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Karol is refusing to be controlled, as Layon sits in half guard.
Karol seems to have got his legs back now.
Layon is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Layon tries to pass to full mount but Karol defends it.

Layon stands up and beckons Karol to join him on the feet.
Layon tries to clinch but Karol is having none of it.
Layon misses with a two punch combination.

Layon throws a left that rocks Karol and follows with a right that sends him tumbling to the canvas! Layon dives into side control, looking to finish! Can Karol regain composure!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Layon lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Karol down.

Layon stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Layon fails with an attempt to clinch.

Layon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Karol quickly recovers to half guard.

Layon scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Karol to see if he's OK.

Karol is looking for a sweep.
Layon tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Layon is looking to take a break and control but Karol is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Karol is pushing Layon's head away, looking to escape. Layon manages to hold on to the position though.

Layon stands up and beckons Karol to his feet.

Layon decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Layon looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Layon throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Karol wants to get back to full guard.
Layon stops Karol from getting back to his feet.

Layon is working for a kimura but Karol is defending it quite comfortably.
Layon wants to get back to his feet.

Layon lands with a punch from half guard.
Karol wants to get back to full guard.
Layon wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karol keeps working.

Layon is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Karol defends it well.
Layon drops an elbow to the side of Karol's head.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Layon is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Karol is looking for a sweep. Layon is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Karol wants to control but Layon is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Layon is nestled in close to Karol, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Karol keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Layon wants to control but Karol is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Layon wants to free his trapped foot but Karol is holding on for dear life with his legs.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Layon tries to clinch there but Karol circles away.
Layon lands a nice shot that snaps Karol's head back.

Layon closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
It looks like Layon is going to stand back up.
Karol tries to get to full guard but Layon has control of the leg.
Karol tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Layon manages to move to mount!
Karol knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Layon on the ground.
Layon lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Karol tries to hold on but Layon postures up.
Layon lands a big shot there that rocks Karol but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Layon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Layon has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Layon looking for a guillotine from mount but Karol is having none of it.
Karol is looking to improve his position but Layon isn't that keen on the idea.
Karol is working hard here to advance position.
Karol wants to hold on but Layon pushes him away.

Karol is wriggling around trying to escape.
Karol is bucking up trying to escape but Layon cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Layon lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Layon wants to control the pace but Karol is squirming around nicely.
Layon lands a big elbow.

Layon can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Karol is looking to escape.
Layon lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Karol hang on?
Karol on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Karol tries to get out of the position.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Layon cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Layon avoids the attempt from Karol to control.

BOOM! Layon connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Karol wants to get back to his feet.

Layon is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Karol is surviving well by controlling Layon's body position as best he can.
Karol tries to lock up and control but Layon gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Layon is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Karol can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Karol is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Layon trying to control but he's not successful this time.

Layon looks to clinch

and Karol decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Layon's guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Karol wants to clinch up but Layon keeps it at a distance.
Karol Karol seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Layon tries to grapple but his opponent circles

and Karol counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Layon wants to get back to his feet.
Layon is trying is best to control the position here.
Karol is just content to waste time from the top position. Layon takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Karol lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Layon trying to keep a closed guard but Karol is proving a slippery customer.

Layon throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Karol escapes and throws Layon's legs to the side, diving into side control!

Karol looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Layon is fending him off so far but Karol persists. Nope, Layon circles away and we're back to standing.

Layon is looking to clinch.
Karol shoots in for a takedown but Layon shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Karol Karol. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Karol wants to clinch up but Layon keeps it at a distance.

Layon shoots in and bounces Karol off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Layon distracts Karol with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Well Layon has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
