PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Chance Taken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cain Marko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marko has chosen Unstoppable-E.S. Posthumus as his entrance music. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chance Taken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Cain Marko!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Chris Downing and Frank Dennis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Taken with a lazy takedown attempt
and Marko counters with a stiff right hand.
Taken tries to clinch
and Marko makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Taken with a lazy takedown attempt
and Marko counters with a left to the body.
Taken misses with a takedown attempt
and Marko counters with a right hand to the body.

Taken doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Marko counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Marko.

Marko manages to break the clinch.

and Marko counters with a lovely straight right hand!

Taken moves away from the strike by Marko.
Marko throws a jab when Taken was well out of range.
Cain Marko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Taken feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Taken won't allow Marko to sweep him here.

Marko can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Taken controls the pace.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Taken throws an elbow but Marko slips to the side and avoids it well.
Marko is trying to control Taken's posture but Taken avoids it.
Taken working the ground and pound from side control.
Taken in side control, throwing shots but Marko defends.
Taken working away.
Taken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Taken trying to control the action but Marko is working from the bottom.
Marko is looking to regain half guard here but Taken keeps moving and retains side control.
An elbow from Taken crashes against the mat.
You can see the frustration on Marko's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Marko tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Taken wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cain Marko will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Marko counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Taken thinking.
Taken gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Marko counters with a stiff right hand.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Taken with a poor takedown
and Marko counters with a left to the body.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Chance Taken. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Marko tries to keep at a distance but Taken has taken the fight into the clinch.
Marko struggles to land a body shot inside as Taken controls his hands.

Taken is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Marko can't fight it off and eventually Taken manages to take the fight to the floor. Marko looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Taken has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Marko is proving hard to escape from.

Marko is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Taken trying to control but Marko is working from the bottom.

Chance Taken has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Taken closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.

Taken drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Taken controlling from side mount.
Marko manages to get back to half guard.
Marko is looking for a sweep. Taken is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Marko blocking the ground and pound attempt from Taken.
Marko is concentrating on defense, preventing Taken from advancing position.

Taken stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Marko to get to his feet.
Taken throws an off balance right hand
and Marko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

and Marko counters with a nice body shot.
Taken with a lazy takedown attempt
and Marko counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Taken, right into the meat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Chance Taken will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Taken tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Marko paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Marko's corner calls for a 1-2. Marko obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

and Taken counters with a single leg into guard. Marko didn't expect that.
Taken is stalling in the full guard.

Taken pushing down on Marko's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Taken wants to pass the guard but Marko is defending well.
Marko has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Taken is working away from the top position though.
Taken throwing shots but Marko is blocking nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Cain Marko comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Marko has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
