Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mark Pineda (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Peeta Mellark (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Mark Pineda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peeta Mellark!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Elvis Blanc and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mellark throws a leg kick but Pineda sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Mellark throws a low kick but it's checked well by Pineda.
Pineda connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Pineda misses with a double jab
and Mellark counters with a straight right hand.
Mellark connects with a solid leg kick.
Pineda misses with a shot to the body
and Mellark counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Pineda uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Mellark.
Pineda shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mellark defends it nicely.
Pineda misses with a left hand
and Mellark counters with a thumping low kick.
Mellark just misses with a punch to the body.
Pineda misses with an uppercut
and Mellark counters with a low kick, right behind Pineda 's knee.

Pineda connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Mellark fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Pineda is out of range.
Mellark swings away with a body shot that misses
and Pineda counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Mellark goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
Pineda throws a lazy uppercut
enabling Mellark to counter with a crisp jab.
A decent looking body kick lands there for Mellark.
Mellark tries a low kick but Pineda avoids it.
Pineda scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Peeta Mellark is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Pineda throws a predictable looking body shot
and Mellark counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Pineda falls off balance throwing a combination
and Mellark counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Mellark lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Pineda rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Mellark finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Mellark enables Pineda to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Mellark manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Pineda controls Mellark momentarily but Mellark frees himself.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Pineda can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Mellark controls the pace.
Mellark must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Pineda is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mark Pineda.

and Mellark counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Pineda changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mellark tries to avoid it but Pineda manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mellark to the ground. Mellark escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Pineda shoots in looking for a takedown. Mellark tries to sprawl out of it but Pineda keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Mellark manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mellark throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Peeta Mellark showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

and Mellark counters with a three punch combo that has Pineda backing up. Pineda nods at Mellark to acknowledge the strikes.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Mellark does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Pineda fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Mellark uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Pineda.

and Mellark counters with an outside leg kick.
Mellark is looking to slow Pineda down with leg kicks.
Pineda takes a swing at Mellark's ribcage but misses.
Mellark stuffs the takedown attempt from Pineda. Pineda gets slowly back to his feet.

Peeta Mellark is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Mellark is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Pineda is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Mellark stays in close to Pineda's body and controls the position.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
