Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Peter Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ragnar Hjelmslev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hjelmslev has chosen Let The Hammer Fall as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Peter Cortez! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ragnar Hjelmslev! The judges for this bout are Stewart Dunkirk, Wesley Smith and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Cortez misses the shot to the body. Cortez bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hjelmslev can do anything to dispel that myth. Cortez misses with an attempted head punch from side control. Hjelmslev tries to buck Cortez off but Cortez is having none of it. Cortez trying to control the action but Hjelmslev is working from the bottom. Cortez creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Hjelmslev tries to buck Cortez off but Cortez is having none of it. Hjelmslev is trying to control Cortez's posture but Cortez avoids it. Hjelmslev really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cortez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Hjelmslev is trying to avoid being dragged into an even worse position than he's already in but Cortez is staying active. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hjelmslev tries to buck Cortez off but Cortez is having none of it. Cortez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Hjelmslev is trying to control Cortez's posture but Cortez avoids it.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hjelmslev managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Cortez.
Hjelmslev tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cortez wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. Hjelmslev regains half guard, as Cortez was trying to land strikes. Hjelmslev has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Cortez is working away from the top position though. Hjelmslev preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head. Cortez wants to pass to mount but Hjelmslev is defending the position. Cortez is looking to take a break and control but Hjelmslev is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Cortez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Hjelmslev trying to control here.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Cortez moves out of range of the leg kick from Hjelmslev. Cortez falls off balance throwing a combination
and Cortez takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. Cortez rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Hjelmslev counters with a lovely straight right hand! Cortez on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Cortez shoots in looking for a takedown. Hjelmslev tries to sprawl out of it but Cortez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hjelmslev manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Cortez just misses with a punch to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortez takes a swing at Hjelmslev's ribcage but misses. Cortez shoots in and drives through. Hjelmslev sprawls well. Hjelmslev misses with a low kick as Cortez jumps back. Cortez drives through with a takedown into Hjelmslev's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position. Hjelmslev is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Hjelmslev is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Cortez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Cortez is looking to improve his position.
Hjelmslev is keen to just control but Cortez is a slippery customer.

That was a close round but I would say that Peter Cortez will probably get the nod. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Hjelmslev throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body. Cortez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hjelmslev can pounce on him.

and Hjelmslev counters by moving into the clinch. Hjelmslev is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace. Cortez fails to pull guard.

Cortez is trying to drag Hjelmslev to the mat but Hjelmslev just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Peter Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hjelmslev's corner are urging him to control the action in the clinch for a moment, rather than mount any serious offense. I'm sure the crowd appreciate those instructions... not. Cortez fails to pull guard.

Cortez goes for a takedown attempt but Hjelmslev pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Cortez misses with a left hand and Hjelmslev counters with a solid body kick. Hjelmslev goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Peter Cortez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Cortez throws a poor cross that misses
and Hjelmslev counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head. Cortez misses with a lunging right hand
and Hjelmslev counters with a body kick that stops Cortez in his tracks momentarily. Cortez swings and misses with a shot to the body and Hjelmslev counters with a leg kick. An inside leg kick lands from Hjelmslev. Cortez needs to keep his hands up - Hjelmslev had a free shot at his head there. Cortez tries to keep at a distance but Hjelmslev has taken the fight into the clinch. Cortez jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Hjelmslev walks away with a smile on his face. Cortez gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head. Hjelmslev throws a nice looking combination but Cortez bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hjelmslev uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Cortez has time to react. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Hjelmslev thumps Cortez with a low kick. Hjelmslev chopping away at his opponent's legs.

Cortez tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Hjelmslev swivels and escapes. Cortez swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hjelmslev counters with a flying knee. Nice. Hjelmslev tests Cortez's chin there with a solid looking shot. Hjelmslev throws a head kick but Cortez moves out of range.

and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick. Hjelmslev rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cortez moves out of range and avoids them all easily. The fighters circling - Hjelmslev throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Cortez lands a body shot.
Cortez misses with a right hand and Hjelmslev counters with a slapping leg kick. Hjelmslev takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Hjelmslev lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise. Cortez throws a poor cross that misses
and Hjelmslev counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body. Hjelmslev scores with a leg kick.
Ragnar Hjelmslev seems to be getting the better of the standup. Hjelmslev fakes a jab and scores with a low kick. Cortez has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Hjelmslev. Hjelmslev throws a head kick but Cortez moves out of range.
Ragnar Hjelmslev is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Cortez drops his hands momentarily and Hjelmslev takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Cortez throws an ugly left hook that misses
letting Hjelmslev counter with a right hand. Cortez is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hjelmslev lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh. Hjelmslev connects with an inside leg kick. Cortez throws an off balance right hand
and Hjelmslev counters with a slapping leg kick. Cortez's hands are dropping dangerously low here and Hjelmslev connects clean with a right hook that sends him down to one knee! Cortez scrambles back to his feet. Cortez takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. That kick from Hjelmslev tenderised Cortez's leg. Cortez is trying to keep his angry face on. Hjelmslev lands a nice leg kick that just misses Cortez's sensitive parts. Hjelmslev throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hjelmslev fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Cortez has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Hjelmslev stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush. Hjelmslev feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Cortez's calf. And thats the end of the round the fighters go back to their corners.
Ragnar Hjelmslev showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!

Hjelmslev fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Cortez on the side of the head. Cortez chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hjelmslev can pounce on him.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hjelmslev throws a body kick but he was well out of range there. Hjelmslev comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Hjelmslev scores with a nice body kick.
Cortez will be looking to protect his midsection after taking some solid kicks to the body. Hjelmslev connects with an inside leg kick. A looping hook to the body misses from Hjelmslev. Cortez does a little dance to reset his feet. Hjelmslev has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Hjelmslev lands a glancing blow to the side of Cortez's head. A jab from Hjelmslev does it's job there. Cortez misses with a lunging right hand
and Hjelmslev counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Hjelmslev tried to score with a low kick but Cortez checks it.

Cortez misses with a takedown and Hjelmslev counters with a nice low kick that buckles Cortez's knee momentarily. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Hjelmslev is looking to slow Cortez down with leg kicks. Hjelmslev moves into range and clinches up with Cortez. Cortez managing to block the knees to the body from Hjelmslev.
And that's the end of the fight! Ragnar Hjelmslev comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. I think Hjelmslev has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
