Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matthew Coltrane! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pat Stay! The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Steve Smith and William Peck.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Stay moves into the clinch successfully.
Stay working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
It looks like Matthew Coltrane has been cut. Stay taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Stay swings wildly with an uppercut but Coltrane uses good head movement to avoid it. Stay lands a left hand that snaps the head of Coltrane backwards. Stay pushes Coltrane back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head. Stay lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage. Stay pulls Coltrane into guard.
Coltrane wants to stand but Stay is controlling his posture from full guard. Stay looking to control.
Coltrane postures up in Stay's guard and throws a big left but Stay blocks it. Coltrane trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Stay looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Stay looking to control.
Coltrane wants to pass the guard but Stay is keeping the position. Stay keeping moving, preventing Coltrane from controlling successfully.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Stay gets a clinch. Stay wants the takedown. Coltrane is fighting it off but Stay persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Coltrane's guard against the cage. Coltrane has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Coltrane trying to strike off his back.
Stay has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Coltrane to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Stay is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Coltrane pulls down on the head and he's put Stay to sleep! This one is all over!
