Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Andrew Legus! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Johny Deep! The judges for this bout are Trevor Gratis, Ian Loll and Gregory Folan.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A jab lands there for Legus. Legus has Deep up against the cage in a clinch.
Deep tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Legus just stands there and leans against the cage. Deep tries to pull guard but Legus won't allow it.
Legus is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
Legus looking to throw knees to the head but Deep is blocking nicely.
Legus stalls. Deep fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Andrew Legus has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Johny Deep. Legus's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Deep gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Legus stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Deep swivels though and keeps the full guard. Legus is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. Deep looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's one minute gone in the round. Deep is looking for a triangle but Legus pushes his legs off easily.
Deep keeping full guard, as Legus tries to pass. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Legus throws a big right hand that misses. Legus scoring with some ground and pound. Legus sitting in guard here, content to control. Legus has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Legus won't allow Deep to sweep him here. Legus wants to pass the guard but Deep is keeping the position. Legus stands up over Deep, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Legus is in close to Deep's body, working some short punches and elbows. Legus scoring with punches to the head and body. Legus decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Deep, up you get! Legus tries to close the distance and clinch up but Deep swats him away and circles back towards the center. Legus stuffs the takedown attempt from Deep. Deep gets slowly back to his feet. The fight stays on the outside here - Legus looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Legus goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Legus lands a head shot. Deep looks gassed! Legus misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Legus works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance. Legus closes the distance and clinches. Legus turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Legus tries to advance to mount but can't. Deep really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Legus. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Deep tries to get back to half guard but can't.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Legus decides to stand back up. Legus steps back and let's Deep get back to his feet. Legus wants to clinch up but Deep keeps it at a distance. Legus throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Deep. Legus shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Deep keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Legus works his way into side control. Deep taking punishment in the form of punches.
Deep is not content to let Legus control the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Legus working the ground and pound. Legus wants to control but Deep is keeping him busy. Legus decides to stand back up. Legus steps back and let's Deep get back to his feet. Deep throws a series of punches but Legus moves out of range. A momentary lapse in concentration from Legus enables Deep to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Legus manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Legus kicks Deep off and gets to his feet. Deep swats away the attempt to clinch by Legus. The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action! Legus throws a right and a left that both miss. Legus wants to clinch up but Deep keeps it at a distance. Deep feints a jab promting Legus to slip. Deep then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Legus slips again and ducks right into an uppercut. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Andrew Legus dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Legus closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. Legus gets underhooks to prevent Deep's takedown attempt.
Legus connects with a nasty looking knee right to Deep's face.
Legus is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Deep can't fight it off and eventually Legus manages to take the fight to the floor. Deep looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard. Legus trying to control but Deep is working from the bottom. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Deep can do anything to dispel that myth. Deep is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Legus makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Legus. Legus working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Deep doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Deep manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem. Deep is breathing heavily. Legus lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Deep!
That's one minute gone in the round. Deep is in a horrible position here. Legus smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Legus looking to control but Deep is working nicely, looking to advance position himself. Legus with good strikes from the mount here! BOOM! Legus connects with a massive shot to the dome!
A nice elbow there by Legus. Legus looking to finish Deep with some ground and pound. This is bad for Deep!
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Deep in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head. Legus tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position. Legus is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Deep can do to turn this around? Legus lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Legus working Deep over with strikes here. Legus landing strikes from the mount. Legus looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Legus cracks Deep with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Legus working for a guillotine from mount but Deep is in no mood to give up. Legus with a couple of short strikes.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Legus working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Deep turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Legus off and cradles Deep's limp body as Legus celebrates with his corner.
