Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Hank Henry! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Aran Schmeck! The judges for this bout are Valeri Chadov, Dmitry Maklakov and Konstantin Menshow.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Henry has Schmeck up against the cage in a clinch.
Schmeck fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Henry breaks the clinch.
Henry misses with a wild body shot. Henry swinging wildly here.
Sloppy strikes from Henry. Those never looked like landing. Schmeck closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Henry looks like he's trying to stand up.
Schmeck content to control rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry is trying to stand.
Schmeck is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Schmeck slows the pace down in half guard. Henry is trying to stand up here but Schmeck is controlling him well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Schmeck trying to control the action but Henry is working from the bottom. Schmeck seems to be trying to get a kimura but instead Henry has recovered full guard. Schmeck postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Henry is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Schmeck, into his guard. Schmeck wants to sweep but no luck.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Henry would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Schmeck is trying to keep Henry in close.
Schmeck wants to sweep here but Henry controlling him for the moment. Henry trying to stand up but can't free himself from Schmeck's guard. Henry stopping the sweep attempt from Schmeck. Schmeck has control of Henry's left arm, preventing Henry from doing any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up. Henry ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Schmeck moves away. Schmeck changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Henry looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Henry is trying to buck Schmeck off. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Schmeck taking a break here but Henry is having none of it and regains half guard. Henry is defending against the submission attempts here by Schmeck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Aran Schmeck dominated that round. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
Henry misses with a jab, cross combination.
Hank Henry is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Henry throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Schmeck. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schmeck misses with a takedown attempt and Henry counters with a nice uppercut. Schmeck keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Henry. Henry throws a hook to the side of Schmeck's head but Schmeck sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
That's one minute gone in the round. Henry thows a left - swing and a miss! Henry misses with a body shot
and Schmeck counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Henry's guard now. Schmeck trying to control but Henry is working from the bottom.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Henry manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Schmeck shoots in but doesn't get the takedown letting Henry counter with a right hand.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Schmeck gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Henry counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Hank Henry has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aran Schmeck. Henry lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Schmeck circles away quickly and effectively. Hank Henry is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. A big left from Henry misses. Sloppy strikes from Henry. Those never looked like landing. A looping hook to the body misses from Henry. Schmeck does a little dance to reset his feet.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Schmeck shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Henry counters with a stiff right hand. Schmeck uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Henry. Schmeck feints and as Henry raises his hands in defense, Schmeck changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard. Schmeck drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Henry manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Schmeck has Henry in his guard. Henry has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Schmeck is proving hard to escape from.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Schmeck is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Schmeck manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Henry manages to get himself to full guard.
Schmeck advances to half guard. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Henry is looking to escape. Schmeck wants to lay and pray for a moment but Henry keeps working. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Hank Henry dominated that second round. The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!
Schmeck ducks under a wild hook from Henry. Henry misses with a few strikes there.
Henry clinches with his opponent.
Henry pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat. Schmeck avoids a punch combination nicely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Schmeck has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
That's one minute gone in the round. Schmeck shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Schmeck was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Schmeck content just to control the position here. Henry trying desperately to get to his feet.
Henry has left one of his arms exposed and Schmeck doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Henry screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
