PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Crack Corn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Iqbal Al Mamood (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crack Corn kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Jimmy cracks heads and he dont care. Al Mamood has chosen Mamute Pequenino as his entrance music. Iqbal Al Mamood has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with Jimmy Crack Corn's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 18 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Jimmy Crack Corn!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Iqbal Al Mamood!
The judges for this bout are Damien Edna, Bruno Hogan and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Al Mamood shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Crack Corn manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Crack Corn is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Crack Corn is looking for a triangle here but Al Mamood uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Crack Corn is trying to control Al Mamood's posture but Al Mamood avoids it.
Al Mamood prevents Crack Corn from escaping the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crack Corn tries to bench press Al Mamood off him but Al Mamood keeps the position.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Crack Corn wants to control but Al Mamood postures up.
Crack Corn tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Al Mamood presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Al Mamood's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
It looks like Al Mamood might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Crack Corn is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Iqbal Al Mamood hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.

Al Mamood shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Al Mamood perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Al Mamood shoots for a takedown but Crack Corn saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Crack Corn closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Al Mamood did well to prevent Crack Corn getting side control.
Al Mamood is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Crack Corn throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
The fighters are battling for position here. Al Mamood manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

Al Mamood wants to get back to his feet but Crack Corn is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Al Mamood pulls Crack Corn in close to prevent any damage.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Al Mamood is on top in guard.

Crack Corn wants to get back to his feet but Al Mamood is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Crack Corn is looking to stand up but Al Mamood isn't so interested in that idea.

Al Mamood slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Al Mamood must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Al Mamood got a little sloppy there for a moment and Crack Corn has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Al Mamood has managed to get both his arms back between Crack Corn's legs - danger averted.
Crack Corn is looking to stand back up but Al Mamood counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Crack Corn.
Al Mamood uses his free foot to push down on Crack Corn's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Crack Corn.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Crack Corn wants to hold on but Al Mamood pushes him away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Iqbal Al Mamood will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Al Mamood manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Crack Corn on his heels. He'll look to pass Crack Corn's guard now, I'm sure.

Crack Corn is trying to stand up here but Al Mamood is controlling him well.

Iqbal Al Mamood comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Al Mamood has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
