PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Simon Cole (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tommy Tortuga (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Tommy Tortuga was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Simon Cole!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tommy Tortuga!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Alec Ball.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cole on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Cole moves in looking to clinch but Tortuga pushes him off.
Cole shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Tortuga but Tortuga pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Tortuga feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Tortuga throwing strikes but missing.
Tortuga stands up over Cole, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Tortuga trying to control the position from guard on top but Cole is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tortuga must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Tortuga wants to pass the guard but Cole is keeping the position.
Tortuga working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Cole looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Cole working for a triangle but Tortuga defends it easily.
Tortuga controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Cole is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Tortuga is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Tommy Tortuga wasn't active enough on the ground.
Tortuga thows a left - swing and a miss!

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Tortuga tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Cole counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Tortuga has guillotine here! It looks pretty tight! Could this be all over! No, Cole escapes and passes into side control at the same time. Nice work there by Cole!
Tortuga tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Cole wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Tortuga is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Cole's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Cole! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Tortuga has tapped! This one is allllll over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:45 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Simon Cole!
