Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, John Johnson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Fiotr Pironczeski! The judges for this bout are Thiago Cunha, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown by Johnson or perhaps it was just good defense by Pironczeski which made him look bad. Johnson tries a head kick but it misses.
Pironczeski dives in and scores a takedown into Johnson's guard. Johnson pulls Pironczeski in close to prevent any damage. Johnson is looking to stand up but Pironczeski isn't so interested in that idea. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Pironczeski accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Pironczeski lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard. Johnson lands a couple of shots from the bottom.
Johnson is looking to stand up but Pironczeski isn't so interested in that idea. Johnson controls Pironczeski momentarily but Pironczeski frees himself.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pironczeski being controlled here momentarily. Pironczeski slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. Johnson looking to control.
The ref stands the fighters back up. John Johnson wasn't doing enough on the ground. Johnson scores with a spinning back kick! The fight moves into the clinch position. Pironczeski manages to pull guard.
Pironczeski wants to stand and escape but Johnson is having none of it. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson tries to stand but Pironczeski is controlling from the bottom. Pironczeski trying to keep a closed guard but Johnson is proving a slippery customer.
Johnson gets to his feet. Pironczeski looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son! Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Pironczeski sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Johnson tries to pass to full mount but Pironczeski defends it. Johnson stands up and beckons Pironczeski to join him on the feet. Pironczeski gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Pironczeski is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Pironczeski wants to sweep here but Johnson controlling him for the moment. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Pironczeski can do anything to dispel that myth. Johnson trying to stand up but can't free himself from Pironczeski's guard. Johnson pushes down on Pironczeski's leg and manages to get into half guard. Johnson lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Pironczeski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Johnson has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Pironczeski defend it? Johnson steps over the head and cranks it - Pironczeski is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Johnson!
