PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Evgeni Crosby (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rob Schultz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Crosby's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Spoon Man. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Evgeni Crosby!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Rob Schultz!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, George Francis and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Schultz walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Schultz connects with a lovely right hand, straight down the pipe.
Schultz keeps the fight on the outside.
Crosby tries to close the distance and clinch but Schultz swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Schultz looks to score with a jab to the body but Crosby is just out of range.
Schultz swats away the attempt to clinch by Crosby.

Schultz bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Crosby wants to escape from the position here - easier said than done!
Schultz is staying tight to Crosby's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Crosby wants to get back to his feet.

Crosby tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Crosby is trying to stand back up.
Schultz is riding his opponent, not letting Crosby buck him off.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Schultz looking for the choke but no joy.

Crosby is trying to stand back up.
Schultz punches the canvas rather than the man.

Crosby wants to get back to his feet.
Schultz punches Crosby on the ear.

Schultz really has the hooks in deep now - there seems like no escape for Crosby.
Crosby controlling the position well but he knows he's in a bad position.

What can Crosby do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

Schultz has his hand under the chin of his opponent looking for the choke. He's nearly got it! This one could be all over! But no, Crosby has freed his hand and lives to survive another… well, another couple of seconds at least!

Crosby doesn't manage to clinch there - Schultz circles away.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Crosby enables Schultz to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Crosby manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Schultz is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Crosby is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Schultz is controlling him.

Crosby is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Schultz is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Still in half guard, Schultz seems content to control.

Crosby kicks Schultz off and gets back to his feet.

Schultz shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Crosby napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Schultz goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Crosby has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Schultz but great work by Crosby.

Schultz sneaks out the side door and pushes Crosby away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Crosby is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Schultz is controlling him.
Schultz slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Schultz stands up from guard. Let's bang!
A looping hook to the body misses from Schultz. Crosby does a little dance to reset his feet.
Crosby circles away from the clinch attempt

Excellent takedown into side control there by Schultz.
Crosby is trying to buck Schultz off.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Schultz content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Schultz lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rob Schultz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Schultz tries to clinch there but Crosby circles away.
Schultz shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Crosby eats them both and turns towards Schultz to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.
Crosby tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Schultz paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Schultz shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Crosby's guard.
Crosby will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Schultz gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Crosby scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.
Crosby tries to clinch up but Schultz circles away and keeps his distance.
Crosby misses with a two punch combination.
Crosby looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Evgeni Crosby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Schultz lands a nice short elbow.
Schultz seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Crosby is trying to stand back up but Schultz is controlling him
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Schultz performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Rob Schultz was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Crosby is looking to clinch but Schultz is avoiding it.
Schultz throws a body kick despite being completely out of range
and Crosby counters with a series of strikes. Schultz will be more careful next time no doubt.

Crosby gets caught napping as Schultz dives in and scores a takedown. Crosby manages to retain guard.

Schultz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Crosby looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Crosby looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Crosby!

Crosby stands up and we're back to a striking position.

and Schultz counters with a single leg into guard. Crosby didn't expect that.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Schultz is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Schultz decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Crosby, up you get!

Crosby will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Crosby is looking to clinch but Schultz is avoiding it.

Well Schultz has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
