Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ok Ko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vic Mercer (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ok Ko!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Vic Mercer!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Daniel Franklin and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ko misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Ko tries to clinch but Mercer is having none of it.
Ko ducks under a wild hook from Mercer.
Ko throws a leg kick which misses Mercer's front leg but catches the back leg as Mercer tries to avoid it.
Ko throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

and Mercer counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ko's guard now.
Mercer is looking to work some ground and pound but Ko has wrist control.
Mercer trying to control but Ko is working from the bottom.
Mercer won't allow Ko to get back to his feet.

Mercer has gone for a leg lock! Ko slips out almost immediately though and dives into Mercer's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ko controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Mercer working for a triangle but Ko defends it easily.

Ko wants to get up but he can't break Mercer's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ok Ko.

Ok Ko seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

and Mercer counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Ok Ko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Ko gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Mercer working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ko is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Mercer is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Ko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Mercer on the ground.

Ko on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Ko tries to get out of the position.
Mercer wants to control from the top but Ko keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

and Ko takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Ko bucks up and tries to throw Mercer off but instead Mercer has got his back!
Ko grimaces as he takes a shot to the body.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Mercer tries to get the hooks in deep but Ko pushed the leg off.
Mercer lands an elbow to the side of the head.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Ko rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
Mercer prevents Ko from improving his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mercer throws out a loose jab but Ko uses good head movement to avoid it.

Ko is staying active underneath Mercer, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Mercer might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Ko kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Mercer is pressing down on Ko's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ko is holding on for now.

Ko has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Mercer is working away from the top position though.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Mercer connects with a nice short shot to Ko's temple.
Mercer has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Mercer is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Ko defends it well.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Mercer lands a nice short elbow.

Mercer is nestled in close to Ko, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

enabling Mercer to counter with a crisp jab.

Mercer changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ko looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Mercer is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Ko is surviving well by controlling Mercer's body position as best he can.

Mercer looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Ko with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Mercer is looking to take a break and control but Ko is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
