PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Frank Sherman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derren Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Sherman has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. Frank Sherman looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Sherman!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Derren Brown!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, James Atkins and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck for Brown with that takedown attempt.
Sherman looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!

Brown lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Sherman sprawling to the canvas. Brown follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Sherman hang on?


It looks like Frank Sherman has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brown thows a huge punch but Sherman dodges it nicely.

Brown working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

Brown seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Sherman might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Brown really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sherman. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Brown is taking a breather. Sherman says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Sherman is not content to let Brown control the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Brown wants to stand but Sherman has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Brown lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Brown connects with a nice short shot to Sherman's temple.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Sherman tries to get to full guard but Brown has control of the leg.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Derren Brown dominated that round.

That's time! Sherman's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Brown dives in and grabs Sherman's left leg, looking for a takedown. Sherman pushes down on Brown's head and hops out.
A punch combination from Brown misses.

Brown manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Sherman on his heels. He'll look to pass Sherman's guard now, I'm sure.
Brown postures up in Sherman's guard and throws a big left but Sherman blocks it.
Derren Brown has got the better of the ground game so far.

Sherman manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Brown manages to get himself to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Brown uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Brown fails to land with a series of punches.
Brown stalks Sherman and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Sherman's face. Sherman staggers backwards, shaken.

and Brown counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Brown takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Sherman shoots in looking for a takedown. Brown tries to sprawl out of it but Sherman keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Brown manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Sherman misses with a takedown attempt - Brown sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We're going to have a standup here because Frank Sherman wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Sherman shoots for a takedown but Brown saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sherman stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Sherman wants it to stay on the feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Sherman jumps guard and drags Brown to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back.

Brown must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sherman is on top in guard.

Sherman stands up and waves to Brown to follow him.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Brown is defended easily by Sherman.
Sherman looks to throw the jab but Brown is out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Brown!
Sherman wants to clinch up but Brown keeps it at a distance.
Derren Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Brown feints a jab promting Sherman to slip. Brown then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Sherman slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.
The crowd cheers as Brown lands an impressive looking overhand right. Sherman doesn't seem phased though.
Brown throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

And that's the end of the fight!
Frank Sherman showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Sherman has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
