Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Mihail Fedorov! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Pawel Hohs! The judges for this bout are Matti Vanhoillinen, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hohs gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Fedorov drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Fedorov jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Fedorov got a little sloppy there for a moment and Hohs has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Fedorov has managed to get both his arms back between Hohs's legs - danger averted. Fedorov tries to stand but Hohs is controlling from the bottom. Hohs being controlled here, momentarily. Fedorov is fighting to break Hohs's control of his arms but Hohs is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hohs escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Fedorov gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Fedorov throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Hohs works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hohs trying to keep a closed guard but Fedorov is proving a slippery customer.
Hohs is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive. Fedorov trying to control the position from guard on top but Hohs is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Hohs wants to stand up but Fedorov is controlling him. Hohs really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Fedorov. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up. Fedorov decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow. Fedorov throws a head kick but Hohs moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Fedorov has taken the fight to the clinch.
Hohs pulls guard. Hohs looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Fedorov passes Hohs's right leg, so he's now in half guard. Fedorov is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Hohs trying to control here but he's found himself mounted! Oh no!
Fedorov tries to control but Hohs wriggling away. Hohs tries to hold on but Fedorov postures up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Fedorov wants to control the pace but Hohs is squirming around nicely. Hohs wants to hold on but Fedorov pushes him away. Fedorov breaks from Hohs's wrist control and lands an elbow. Hohs is wriggling around trying to escape.
Fedorov lands with some strikes. Hohs is in a horrible position here. Fedorov smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
Hohs defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Fedorov.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Fedorov with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Fedorov controlling the position easily from mount. Hohs tries to hold on but Fedorov pushes him away. Fedorov controlling the pace for now. Hohs tries to hold on but Fedorov postures up. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Mihail Fedorov dominated that round. That's time! Fedorov's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.
Fedorov lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Fedorov.
It looks like Pawel Hohs has been cut. Fedorov drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fedorov gets to mount! Hohs was on the offensive and wasn't defending properly. Hohs is squirming around, avoiding Fedorov's attempts to control the action. Fedorov looking to control and managing it successfully. Fedorov looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet. Hohs is wriggling around trying to escape.
That's one minute gone in the round. Fedorov content just to control the position here. Fedorov moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Hohs has worked his arm free - good work by Hohs!
Fedorov lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Hohs is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Fedorov's leg. Oh but that's left an opportunity for Fedorov! He's got an arm triangle... it looks tight! He's rotating and Hohs has tapped! This one is allllll over!
