Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jakobi Smithy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ryan Thomas (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Smithy comes to the cage accompanied by Korn: "Freak on a Leash". The crowd seem to be enjoying Thomas's choice of entrance music: Muse - Knights of Cydonia. Ryan Thomas will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world! Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
9 - 3 - 1, fighting out of New York, Jakobi Smithy! And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ryan Thomas! The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Steve Montenegro and Dean Styles.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Thomas scores with a jab. Smithy acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Thomas is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Thomas shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Smithy pinned against the cage. Smithy gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. Smithy throws a low kick, looking for Thomas's leg but Thomas calmly moves out of range.
That's one minute gone in the round. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smithy throws a jab but it's blocked by Thomas. Smithy thuds a left hand into Thomas's body. Thomas throws a quick inside leg kick. Smithy is looking to slow Thomas down with leg kicks.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Smithy looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple. The fight stays on the outside here - Smithy looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Thomas with a poor takedown and Smithy counters with a nice leg kick. Smithy pivots, looking for a leg kick but Thomas is out of range and Smithy settles back down.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Smithy jabbing away but nothing is landing. Smithy misses with a leg kick and Thomas counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Smithy is staying active underneath Thomas, who seems content to just control the action from this position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Thomas prevents Smithy from improving his position. Thomas thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Smithy's head. Smithy is looking to control Thomas's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Smithy avoid being mounted?

Thomas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smithy is just riding it out for now. Thomas eventually gives up the hold. Thomas is working for a submission of some sort.

Ryan Thomas dominated that round. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Thomas goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Smithy has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Thomas but great work by Smithy. Smithy wants to control but Thomas is keeping him busy. Thomas tries to improve position but can't. Smithy controlling the position from side mount. Thomas tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Smithy wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Thomas is not content to let Smithy control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

He's got his arms around Smithy's waist but Smithy gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Thomas off to one side. Thomas swings and misses with a shot to the body and Smithy counters with a head kick. Thomas fails with a takedown attempt. Smithy keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Thomas.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Thomas throws the left hand but Smithy avoids the punch easily.

That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Thomas. Thomas moves out of range of the body kick. Thomas gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Smithy counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Thomas dives in and grabs Smithy's left leg, looking for a takedown. Smithy pushes down on Thomas's head and hops out. Thomas is trying hard to land a takedown here. Smithy sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Thomas blocks a head kick by Smithy.

Jakobi Smithy clearly takes that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
Thomas shoots and misses and Smithy counters with a solid body kick. Thomas has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Smithy. Smithy walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Thomas checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Thomas takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Thomas fails with the takedown and Smithy connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Jakobi Smithy has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Thomas. Thomas throws a body punch but Smithy moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. Thomas shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard. Smithy is trying to maintain the position but Thomas is very close to passing his half guard. Thomas is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Smithy is just riding it out for now. Thomas eventually gives up the hold. Thomas wants to work for an arm triangle but Smithy is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Smithy scores with a decent looking elbow strike. Thomas looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Smithy passes into half guard.
Thomas is absolutely dripping with sweat - he looks exhausted. Smithy not doing much here.

That's going to take a lot out of Ryan Thomas.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Some bone on bone action there as Thomas checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Smithy misses with a hook to the body
and Thomas makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. Smithy wants to slow Thomas down by chopping away at his legs.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Smithy throws a sloppy head kick and Thomas moves out of range easily. Smithy throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smithy tries to score with a low kick but Thomas moves his leg out of the way.
And that's the end of the fight! Jakobi Smithy showed his dominance in that final round. I think Smithy has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
