Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Urijah Faber! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Anderson Machida! The judges for this bout are Luis Engracia, Leandro Rodrigues and Edson Gomes.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Machida misses with a jab, cross combination.
Faber has his takedown stuffed and Machida counters with a stiff right hand. Faber fails with the takedown and Machida counters with a two punch combo. Machida lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Faber circles away quickly and effectively. Faber shoots in but doesn't get the takedown and Machida decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Faber's guard. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Urijah Faber. That's going to take a lot out of him. Machida is looking to advance position but Faber has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount! Faber is landing with some decent strikes but Machida is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue. Machida wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Faber is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Machida can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
That's one minute gone in the round. Faber connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Faber content just to control the position here. Faber postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Machida looks a forlorn figure.

It looks like Anderson Machida has been cut. Faber working Machida over with strikes here. This has been an exciting period of action! Machida really wants to buck Faber off and get back to his feet. Faber has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Machida looks gassed!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Machida takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position. Faber connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
That has opened up Anderson Machida's cut even more. Faber lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Machida hang on?
