PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dwight Elkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesper Rush (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Elkins comes to the cage accompanied by Care Bear Countdown. Rush has chosen Tom Sawyer - Rush as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 11 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dwight Elkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 25 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Montreal, Jesper Rush!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Dillan Fox.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Elkins shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Rush tries to hold on but Elkins postures up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rush working to try and regain half guard.
Elkins connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Rush is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Elkins controlling from the full mount.
Rush in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rush is wriggling around trying to escape.
Rush wants to hold on but Elkins pushes him away.
Elkins lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Elkins sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Rush wants to control but Elkins is having none of it.

Elkins looking to control but Rush is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Elkins lands a big elbow.
Rush is looking to get to half guard.
Elkins has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Elkins connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Elkins looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Rush wants to control but Elkins is having none of it.
Rush regains half guard.
Elkins thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Rush's head.

Elkins scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Rush keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rush is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Elkins scores with a couple of nice shots.
Rush wants to get back to full guard but Elkins has mounted him!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Rush is looking to get to half guard.
Rush in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Rush wants to hold on but Elkins pushes him away.
Rush blocking the ground and pound.
Rush tries to hold on but Elkins postures up.
Elkins looking to finish with strikes here!
Rush tries to reverse the position but Elkins maintains control.

Elkins avoids the attempt from Rush to control.
Elkins unloads with some shots from mount but Rush bucks and avoids them well.
Rush has worked his way to half guard, taking advantage of Elkins's lack of action.
Elkins is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
Elkins thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Rush to regain full guard.
Elkins throws a big right hand that misses.
Elkins trying to control but Rush is working from the bottom.
Rush looking to hit a scissor sweep but Elkins is one step ahead there.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Elkins slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rush taking a bit of punishment here - Elkins scoring with strikes.
You can see the frustration on Rush's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Elkins throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Elkins working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Elkins advances to full mount.
Elkins raining down hammerfists from mount.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Elkins lands with some strikes.


Rush is rocked!
Elkins thowing shots but they're missing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Elkins dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


Rush misses with a leg kick
and Elkins counters with a head kick. That will keep Rush thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Rush is still on wobbly legs! Can Elkins finish him?
Rush scoring well with a low kick there.
Rush seems to have recovered his senses.
Rush on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Elkins throws a leg kick
and Rush counters with a head kick. That will keep Elkins thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Elkins pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Rush takes a kick to the body and keeps moving.
Rush throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Rush looks for a takedown but Elkins sprawls well.
Rush misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Rush gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Elkins to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Rush not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Elkins with a flurry of punches that miss.
Elkins throwing strikes but missing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Elkins pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rush is keeping the position for now.
Elkins throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Elkins stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Rush swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Rush working a defensive guard here.
Elkins throws a big right hand that misses.
Elkins tries to free his leg and advance position but Rush is retaining full guard.
Elkins wants to control from the top but Rush keeps moving.
Rush pulls Elkins in to control the position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Elkins tries a head kick but it misses.

Elkins rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Rush counters with a nice body shot.
Elkins misses with a head kick.
A combination from Rush does no damage.
Elkins throws a leg kick that misses.
Elkins misses with a body kick.
Elkins scores with a head kick. Rush tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Elkins shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Rush is trying to defend but Elkins finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Elkins thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Rush keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Elkins not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Rush has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Elkins is working away from the top position though.
Elkins passes the guard and advances to mount!
Elkins misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Rush keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dwight Elkins dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Elkins staying out of range there.
Elkins misses with a kick to the body

and Rush counters with a shoot takedown. Elkins fights it but they end up in guard.
Rush keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Elkins's head.
Elkins tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rush wants to control from the top but Elkins keeps moving.
Rush might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Elkins kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Elkins is on top in guard.
Rush is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Rush tries to pass to full mount but Elkins defends it.
Elkins keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Rush is looking for a kimura here.
Rush is thwarting Elkins's attempts to control the position.
Dwight Elkins overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Elkins is trying to control but Rush manages to pass to mount!
Elkins keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Rush punching from mount but Elkins doing a good job of avoiding damage.

Rush prevents Elkins from getting the reversal.
Rush wants to control the pace but Elkins is squirming around nicely.
BOOM! Rush connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Elkins wants to hold on but Rush pushes him away.
Jesper Rush has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Rush fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Elkins is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Rush controlling from mount.
Rush tries to control but Elkins wriggling away.
Elkins is looking to get to half guard.
Elkins wants to hold on but Rush pushes him away.

Rush is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Elkins has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Elkins!
Dwight Elkins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Rush is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Elkins loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rush trying to control the position.
Elkins stays in close to Rush's body and controls the position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Rush tries to work over Elkins's front leg with a kick but Elkins checks it.
Rush throws a poor cross that misses
letting Elkins counter with a right hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jesper Rush comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Elkins has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
