Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Matt Lisser (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Gabriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Matt Lisser!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Juan Gabriel!
The judges for this bout are William Peck, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gabriel fails to land with a series of punches.
Lisser tries for a takedown but Gabriel circles away easily

and Gabriel counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Lisser's guard now.
Gabriel wants to get up but he can't break Lisser's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Lisser has Gabriel pulled in close to control his posture.

Lisser is working an open guard so Gabriel takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Gabriel shoots in but doesn't get the takedown

and Lisser counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gabriel won't be happy with that.

Lisser thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Gabriel can't do much from the bottom here.

Lisser cracks Gabriel with a big elbow.
Lisser postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The ground and pound from Lisser seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Lisser wants to lay and pray for a moment but Gabriel keeps working.
Gabriel manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Lisser landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.

Lisser swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Gabriel is now in Lisser's guard. A big mistake from Lisser there, giving up the dominant position!
Gabriel would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Gabriel must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Lisser wants to sweep here but Gabriel controlling him for the moment.
Lisser is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Gabriel is looking to control Lisser's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Gabriel avoid being mounted?

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Lisser wants to control but Gabriel is keeping him busy.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Gabriel keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Gabriel regains full guard, whilst avoiding punches from Lisser.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Lisser stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gabriel swivels though and keeps the full guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Gabriel wants to sweep but no luck.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Matt Lisser dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Lisser takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Lisser seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Gabriel does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Gabriel has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Lisser is working away from the top position though.

Gabriel wants to control but Lisser is keeping busy and won't allow it.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Lisser throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gabriel works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Gabriel bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lisser's guard.
Gabriel would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Lisser pulls Gabriel in close to prevent any damage.
Lisser has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Juan Gabriel has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Lisser doesn't react quick enough there as he takes a shot to the body.

Lisser throws and elbow that misses. Gabriel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Lisser's guard. Nice move by Gabriel!
Gabriel wants to stand and escape but instead Lisser has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Lisser has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Lisser, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
