PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Turner (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones comes to the cage accompanied by Go DJ by Lil Wayne. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, John Turner!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Dillan Fox and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones connects with a good right hand that stumbles Turner. Turner circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Good leg kick by Turner there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Jones throws a lazy uppercut
and Turner counters with a nice body shot.
Turner throws a leg kick but Jones sees it coming and checks it nicely.
Turner throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Turner moves into range and connects with a jab.
Turner thuds his shin into the meat of Jones's side.

Jones dives in and grabs Turner's left leg, looking for a takedown. Turner pushes down on Jones's head and hops out.

Jones really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Turner scores with a hook to the body. Jones takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.

John Turner is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Jones connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Jones fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Turner avoids it really well and circles away.
Jones is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Turner sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Jones thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Turner to regain full guard.

Jones trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Jones slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Turner tries to contro but end up mounted... ooooh, that's bad.
Turner avoids a series of strikes thrown by Jones.
Jones punching from mount but Turner doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Turner wants to hold on but Jones pushes him away.

Jones jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Turner manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Jones working the strikes but Turner uses the opportunity to regain half guard.
Jones will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Turner wants to improve his position but Jones is controlling well.

Jones is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Turner defends it well.
Jones takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Turner is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Jones's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Jones's back!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Turner enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Turner manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Turner. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Jones is working Turner over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Jones falls off balance throwing a combination
and Turner makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range.
Jones bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

and Jones counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jones throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Turner counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Turner throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Nice uppercut lands for Turner. That snapped Jones's head back.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Jones throws a one two combo.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Turner comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Turner has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
