PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Hakeem Jabbar (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Spider (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hakeem Jabbar looks tired to me. Hopefully he has got enough gas left in the tank to put in a good performance.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Hakeem Jabbar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Anderson Spider!
The judges for this bout are Steven Brown, Andrew Berry and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Spider misses with a right hand
and Jabbar counters with a lovely shot to the body.
Jabbar looks exhausted already! Oh dear, he should have come in in better shape than this!
Spider misses with a looping left.
Spider misses with a low kick.
Jabbar ducks under a wild hook from Spider.
Spider throws a nice looking combination but Jabbar bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Jabbar throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Spider throws a leg kick that is checked
and Jabbar counters with a body kick that brings a smile to the face of both fighters.
Jabbar steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Spider.
Spider misses with a body shot.
Spider misses with a double jab

and Jabbar counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Spider's guard now.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Jabbar has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Spider is proving hard to escape from.
Spider is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Spider is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Jabbar has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Jabbar postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Spider is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Jabbar defends well.
Jabbar chips away with some ground and pound.
Spider is looking to stand up but Jabbar isn't so interested in that idea.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Spider wants to get back to his feet but Jabbar is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Spider wants to sweep here but Jabbar controlling him for the moment.

Spider throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
Jabbar is looking to stand up but Spider won't let him.
Spider is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Jabbar trying to stand up but can't free himself from Spider's guard.
Jabbar is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Spider is on top in guard.
Jabbar has a closed guard, preventing Spider from standing up.
Jabbar on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Jabbar tries to get out of the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Hakeem Jabbar dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Spider misses with the body kick
and Jabbar counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Spider throws a right and a left that Jabbar avoids nicely.
Spider throws a sloppy head kick
and Jabbar counters with a right hand to the body.

Jabbar has managed to clinch.
Spider looking for a takedown.
Spider tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jabbar just stands there and leans against the cage.

Jabbar escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Spider.
Spider misses with a double jab

and Jabbar holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Spider is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Jabbar pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Hakeem Jabbar has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Spider.

Jabbar breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Spider throws a lazy uppercut

and Jabbar holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Jabbar blocks a body shot from Spider.

Jabbar ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Jabbar no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Jabbar really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Jabbar has a closed guard, preventing Spider from standing up.
Spider is fighting to break Jabbar's control of his arms but Jabbar is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Jabbar's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Spider trying to stand up but can't free himself from Jabbar's guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Hakeem Jabbar wasn't doing enough on the ground.

Jabbar closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Spider's guard.

Spider looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Spider looking to control.
Jabbar will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Spider lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Jabbar!
Spider wants to stand but Jabbar is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
Jabbar is desperately trying to improve his position but Spider has a good base and remains in mount.
Spider tries to stand up but he's trapped just for the moment.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Jabbar is hanging on here. He's in a desperate position.
Spider wants to stand but Jabbar is holding on to him, trying to stop him posturing up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. And we move into the final round!


A head kick by Spider misses

and Jabbar counters with a shoot takedown. Spider fights it but they end up in guard.
Jabbar with a flurry of punches that miss.
Spider wants to sweep here but Jabbar controlling him for the moment.
Spider wants to stand and escape but Jabbar is having none of it.

Jabbar avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Hakeem Jabbar overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Jabbar got a little sloppy there for a moment and Spider has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jabbar has managed to get both his arms back between Spider's legs - danger averted.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Spider had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Jabbar defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Spider escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Jabbar gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Jabbar is looking to stand up but Spider won't let him.

Spider is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Jabbar is aware though and is defending well.
Jabbar wants to get up but he can't break Spider's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Jabbar gets to his feet - Spider follows without any prompting.
Spider misses with a double jab

and Jabbar holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jabbar scores with a knee to the head.

Jabbar's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Spider tries a head kick but it misses.
Spider misses with a leg kick
and Jabbar counters with a left to the body.

Jabbar closes the distance and clinches.
Spider tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Jabbar smiles and moves away.

and Jabbar counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Spider wants to improve his position but Jabbar is controlling well.
Jabbar is keen to just control but Spider is a slippery customer.
Jabbar prevents Spider from improving his position.
Jabbar is pressing down on Spider's thigh, looking to free his foot. Spider is holding on for now.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Spider tries to get to full guard but Jabbar has control of the leg.
Spider has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Jabbar is working away from the top position though.
Hakeem Jabbar is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
We must be close to a standup if these guys don't pick up the pace.
Spider is looking to improve his position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Spider swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Jabbar counters with a single leg into guard. Spider didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Anderson Spider has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Hakeem Jabbar showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Jabbar has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
