Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Trevor McCumby! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Taye Silcic! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Paulo Santos and Emerson Jorge.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! McCumby stuffs the takedown attempt from Silcic. Silcic gets slowly back to his feet. Silcic fails with a takedown attempt from distance. Silcic tries to keep at a distance but McCumby has taken the fight into the clinch. McCumby breaks the clinch.
Silcic throws a leg kick that misses. Silcic is looking to take this fight into the clinch. Silcic shoots in for a double leg but McCumby sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Trevor McCumby has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Taye Silcic. Silcic walks into a left hand. McCumby closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage. McCumby looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now. Silcic pulls McCumby into guard.
McCumby's corner is telling him to maintain position. Silcic escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. McCumby gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. McCumby looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
That's one minute gone in the round. The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace. Silcic throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.
McCumby wants to control from the top but Silcic keeps moving.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Trevor McCumby. Silcic closes the distance and pushes McCumby back into the cage. Silcic drops to a knee looking for a takedown but McCumby gets the underhooks and prevents it.
McCumby stops a takedown attempt from Silcic.
Silcic tries to score a body lock takedown but McCumby shows good agility there to stay on his feet. McCumby tries to break the clinch but Silcic is controlling the position. Silcic tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Silcic wants to get back to striking at distance but McCumby won't allow it.
A frustrated look appears on McCumby's face as he tries to break the clinch. Silcic tries to pull guard but McCumby holds him up against the cage and eventually Silcic drops back down to his feet.
Silcic escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Silcic will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Silcic moves in looking to clinch but McCumby pushes him off. Silcic fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt. Silcic misses with an uppercut
and McCumby counters with a left and a right that stings Silcic. McCumby misses with an uppercut. Silcic saw that one coming. Silcic misses with a combination
and McCumby connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. McCumby getting the better of the striking in that exchange. McCumby scores with a jab to the jaw. McCumby scores with a jab to the head.
Silcic on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Nice shot by McCumby. Silcic will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three minutes gone in the round. McCumby has taken the fight to the clinch.
Silcic tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McCumby smiles and moves away.
Trevor McCumby seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Nice uppercut lands for McCumby. That snapped Silcic's head back.
Silcic misses with a takedown and McCumby counters by moving into the clinch. Silcic is trying to break free. Silcic tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. McCumby smiles and moves away.
Silcic closes the distance looking to clinch and McCumby cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. McCumby gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Silcic throws a nice elbow but it doesn't land.
McCumby breaks the clinch.
Silcic falls off balance throwing a combination
and McCumby counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by McCumby. Silcic breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
That's four minutes gone in the round. McCumby jabs Silcic right on the nose. Silcic blinks but takes it well. McCumby tries to clinch up but Silcic circles away and keeps his distance. McCumby smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button. McCumby is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all. Silcic throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
McCumby is really peppering his opponent's head with punches. Silcic takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
McCumby gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here. Silcic misses with the head strike.
McCumby keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Silcic's efforts to push away. Silcic is working for takedown but McCumby is calmly controlling the position for now. Silcic tightens his grip and picks McCumby up, before dumping him to the ground. McCumby manages to land in guard. Silcic has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Silcic stands and throws McCumby's legs to the side, diving into side control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. This has been an exciting period of action! The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. Silcic goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, McCumby has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Silcic but great work by McCumby. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Trevor McCumby dominated that round. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
McCumby decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Silcic looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. McCumby looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. McCumby's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. McCumby wants to take a breather but Silcic is having none of it.
We're going to have a standup here because Trevor McCumby wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. A big right from McCumby misses. Silcic ducks under a wild hook from McCumby. McCumby chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Silcic can pounce on him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Silcic. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Silcic shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Silcic showed some decent athleticism there. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! McCumby is in trouble now - Silcic has advanced to mount!
That's one minute gone in the round. Silcic controlling the pace for now. Silcic jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but McCumby manages to avoid the submission attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Silcic trying to control the position but McCumby is working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Silcic has worked his way into a potential kimura here. McCumby is trying to get out of the position but his squirming has just got him deeper into trouble. Silcic yanks on the arm and McCumby is forced to tap due to a very painful looking submission! Nice work by Silcic.
