Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Andal Ampatuan! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Luiz Gonzaga! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Taro Takaoka and Yuuki Gou.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Ampatuan fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Ampatuan scores with a jab to the head.
Ampatuan lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Gonzaga on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere. Ampatuan lands a lovely overhand right. Andal Ampatuan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Ampatuan connects with a nice looking jab.
Gonzaga drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Gonzaga drops back looking for a leg! Ampatuan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Ampatuan manages to kick Gonzaga off! Gonzaga jumps back into Ampatuan's guard. Gonzaga drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Ampatuan dives on top into guard. Gonzaga is looking for a triangle but Ampatuan pushes his legs off easily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ampatuan trying to control but Gonzaga is working from the bottom. Gonzaga is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Ampatuan wanted to stand there but Gonzaga had control of the position. Ampatuan engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Gonzaga throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Gonzaga had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Ampatuan defends it easily. Gonzaga looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ampatuan stands up from guard. Let's bang! Left hook, right uppercut from Ampatuan. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Ampatuan lands a head shot. Ampatuan drops Gonzaga with a beautiful combination! Gonzaga stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Ampatuan is looking for the KO!
Gonzaga is rocked! Ampatuan throws a nice inside leg kick. Gonzaga is still on wobbly legs! Can Ampatuan finish him? Gonzaga misses with a takedown attempt and Ampatuan counters with a nice leg kick. Gonzaga seems to have recovered his senses. Gonzaga looks gassed! Ampatuan throws a combination. Gonzaga tries to block but a couple of punches get through. Ampatuan digs a good hook to Gonzaga's body.
Ampatuan bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Ampatuan!
Ampatuan throws a front kick that sends Gonzaga stumbling back into the cage. Gonzaga takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Ampatuan lands a jab. Then a cross. Then finally a nice hook to the body. Good work there by Ampatuan. Ampatuan steps in with a hook that catches Gonzaga right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Ampatuan follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Gonzaga looks absolutely devastated.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:35 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Andal Ampatuan!
