Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Zidane Sephiroth! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jeremy Toney! The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Luis Engracia and Leandro Rodrigues.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Toney slaps away a takedown attempt from Sephiroth, before circling back to the center of the mat. Toney tries to keep at a distance but Sephiroth has taken the fight into the clinch. Good anti-grappling being displayed by Sephiroth as Toney tries to tie him up. Toney is trying to break the clinch but Sephiroth has him pressed against the cage. Sephiroth is leaning against Toney and scores with a nice uppercut to the body. Sephiroth breaks the clinch.
Toney tries to keep at a distance but Sephiroth has taken the fight into the clinch. Sephiroth breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Sephiroth takes the fight into the clinch. Sephiroth breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat. Sephiroth is looking to clinch. Sephiroth fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Toney, pushing him back against the cage. Toney working aggressively here.
A frustrated look appears on Toney's face as he tries to break the clinch. With the fighters clinched against the cage, Sephiroth creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
That's one minute gone in the round. Sephiroth breaks the clinch.
Toney just misses with a punch to the body.
Toney gets caught napping as Sephiroth dives in and scores a takedown. Toney manages to retain guard. Sephiroth's corner is telling him to maintain position. Sephiroth is pushing down on Toney's leg trying to pass to half guard. Toney is fighting to maintain full guard but Sephiroth has managed to sneak the leg through. Sephiroth passes to side control. Toney seems a little lost for a moment, as Sephiroth dominates the positioning. Sephiroth has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Sephiroth working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Toney is trying to escape the position but Sephiroth is controlling the position. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Toney can do anything to dispel that myth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Sephiroth has an Americana. Toney didn't react quickly enough there and he's in big trouble now! He tries to squirm out but is forced to tap! Sephiroth is delighted and gyrates in front of the ring girls. They seem to like the attention - it'll be interesting to see if Sephiroth hooks up with any of them at the after show party.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:30 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Zidane Sephiroth!
