PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Miguel Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Radu Vrabiuta (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Vrabiuta has chosen When The Levee Breaks as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Miguel Cortez has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Miguel Cortez seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Radu Vrabiuta!
The judges for this bout are Felipe Paraventi, Seu Braga and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vrabiuta circles away from the clinch attempt.
Vrabiuta swings for the body but Cortez moves out of range.
Vrabiuta misses with a shot to the body

and Cortez counters with a single leg into guard. Vrabiuta didn't expect that.
Vrabiuta trying to keep a closed guard but Cortez is proving a slippery customer.

Cortez engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Cortez stands and throws Vrabiuta's legs to the side, diving into side control.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Cortez has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Cortez's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Cortez postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cortez seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Cortez is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Vrabiuta's shoulder. That is not cool.

Vrabiuta is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Cortez.

Cortez moves into the clinch.

Vrabiuta has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Cortez uses from the top position.

Vrabiuta working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Cortez doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Cortez manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Cortez feints and as Vrabiuta raises his hands in defense, Cortez changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Cortez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Cortez, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
