PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Silas Hopkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mari Ore (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ore has chosen The Pack - My Girl Got A Girl Too as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Silas Hopkins is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples... Tweaking his own nipples that is.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Silas Hopkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mari Ore!
The judges for this bout are Eliza Hachem, Winston Howard and John Mangel.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ore throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hopkins counters by clinching up.
Hopkins lands a right hand.
Hopkins working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Hopkins lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Ore wants to break free but Hopkins has control.
Ore wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Hopkins with a knee to the head.
Ore has had enough of the clinch but Hopkins keeps him there for the moment.
Hopkins prevents Ore from breaking the clinch.
Ore blocks an elbow strike from Hopkins.
A nice left hand lands by Hopkins.
Ore is trying to push Hopkins away but Hopkins has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere.
Ore has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.
Ore can't break the clinch.
Ore wants to get back to striking at distance but Hopkins won't allow it.
Ore working hard to break the clinch.

Ore escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Ore falls off balance throwing a combination

and Hopkins counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Ore pushes Hopkins off looking to stand but Hopkins dives back in and keeps control.
Hopkins performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Ore has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Hopkins is working away from the top position though.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Hopkins tries to close the distance and clinch but Ore swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hopkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ore throws a combination that misses

and Hopkins counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ore is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hopkins preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Ore is looking for a kimura here.
Ore tries to pass the half guard into mount. Hopkins knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Ore is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Hopkins sees it coming and defends easily.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Ore is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Hopkins has managed to free his arm - good work.
It looks like Ore is going to stand back up.
Hopkins is trying to maintain the position but Ore is very close to passing his half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silas Hopkins dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Ore throws a combination that misses

and Hopkins counters with a shoot takedown. Ore fights it but they end up in guard.
Hopkins engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Ore working for a triangle but Hopkins defends it easily.
Ore wants to stand up but Hopkins is controlling him.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Silas Hopkins just wasn't active enough.
Ore throws a combination that misses

and Hopkins counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ore won't be happy with that.
Ore sneaks back into half guard.

Hopkins is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Ore!
Hopkins looking to control and managing it successfully.

Ore wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Hopkins controlling from the full mount.
Ore is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ore manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Hopkins prevents Ore from improving his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Silas Hopkins.
Ore throws a left and a right that both miss
and Hopkins counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ore scores with a nice looking left hook and follows it up with an uppercut!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Silas Hopkins dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!

Ore is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Hopkins defends well.
Ore is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Ore seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hopkins does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Hopkins is looking to control Ore's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hopkins avoid being mounted?

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Silas Hopkins wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Ore throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hopkins counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Ore!

Ore somehow manages to escape the mount and get back to his feet!
Ore falls off balance throwing a combination

so Hopkins counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Silas Hopkins is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Ore wants to stand but Hopkins is controlling the position.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Hopkins's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Silas Hopkins just wasn't active enough.
Ore throws a left and a right that both miss

and Hopkins holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Ore's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Ore throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Hopkins counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ore's guard now.
Ore throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
Hopkins wants to control from the top but Ore keeps moving.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Ore throws his legs up looking for a submission but Hopkins uses it to pass to side control.

And that's the end of the fight!
Silas Hopkins showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Hopkins, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
