The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Evans jabs Silva right on the nose. Silva blinks but takes it well. Evans looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Silva shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Evans's guard. Silva trying to control but Evans is working from the bottom. Silva forces his way into half guard. Evans wants to get back to full guard. Evans really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Silva wants to control but Evans is keeping him busy. Silva performing his best blanket impression for a moment. Silva frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Silva jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Evans manages to avoid the submission attempt. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Evans prevents Silva from moving into mount. Evans is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Silva tries to move to mount but Evans blocks the move with his legs.

Evans must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Silva is looking for a triangle here but Evans uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Evans creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Silva sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
