Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ben Dover! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Western! The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Summer Carpenter.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Dover misses with a takedown attempt - Western sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. A punch combination from Western misses. Dover will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. Western throws a series of punches but Dover moves out of range. Western keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Ben Dover. That's going to take a lot out of him. Western scores with a hook. Western shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Western is pressing down on Dover's thigh, looking to free his foot. Dover is holding on for now. Dover is looking to improve his position.
Dover moves into full guard.
Dover will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Western missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Dover avoiding any damage from the ground and pound. Western must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu. Western avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Western working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Dover's head.
That's one minute gone in the round. Western trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet. Western working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Dover is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. Dover is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Western really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Dover. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. Western punching from the bottom.
Western is looking to control Dover's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Western avoid being mounted? Dover not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Western striking from the bottom. Western is looking to improve his position.
Dover wants to pass the guard but Western is defending well. Dover is breathing heavily. Western wants to improve his position but Dover is controlling well.
Dover in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Western tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Dover!
