The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dawson shoots and misses

and Carter counters with a single leg into guard. Dawson didn't expect that.

Dawson is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Dawson knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Carter on the ground.
Dawson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Carter wants to control from the top but Dawson keeps moving.
Carter pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Dawson is keeping the position for now.
Dawson keeping moving, preventing Carter from controlling successfully.
Carter pushes down on Dawson's leg and manages to get into half guard.

Carter is trying to work for a kimura but Dawson is defending well.
Carter wants to pass to mount but Dawson is defending the position.
Carter is trying to control. Dawson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Carter is looking for a kimura but Dawson is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Carter to get the leverage.

Dawson is not content to let Carter control the position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Carter is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Carter trying to work for an americana but Dawson has managed to regain full guard.
Carter advances to half guard.
Dawson is not content to let Carter control the position.

Dawson looking for submissions from an awkward position here.
Dawson wants to get back to full guard.
Dawson is breathing heavily.

Carter is trying to work for a kimura but Dawson is defending well.

Carter is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Dawson defends it well.

Carter is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Carter is keen to just control but Dawson is a slippery customer.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Carter is thwarting Dawson's attempts to control the position.
Carter wants to stand but Dawson has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Dawson tries to kick Carter off but Carter keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Dawson wants to improve his position but Carter is controlling well.
Dawson gets full guard.
Carter trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Carter dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Carter takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Dudley Dawson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dawson throws a head kick but Carter moves out of range.

Dawson tries to sprawl but Carter drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Carter seems to be working for a kimura but Dawson defends the submission attempt.

Carter is working for a submission of some sort.
Carter is trying to control the action in half guard but Dawson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Dawson has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Carter is working away from the top position though.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dawson flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Dawson wants to control but Carter is keeping busy.

Carter is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Dawson sees it coming and defends easily.
Dawson moves into full guard.

Dawson has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carter can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Carter drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Carter jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Carter trying to control but Dawson is working from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Carter is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Carter thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Carter trying to control but Dawson is working from the bottom.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Carter slips nicely into half guard.
Dawson won't allow Carter to pass to mount.
Dawson throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Dawson is defending against the submission attempts here by Carter.

Dawson actively working from the bottom here.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dawson is staying active underneath Carter, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Carter is working for a kimura but Dawson is defending it quite comfortably.
Carter is keen to just control but Dawson is a slippery customer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Carter showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


Dawson closes the distance and clinches up with Carter, looking for a takedown. Dawson pushes Carter against the cage but Carter circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Dawson shoots and misses

so Carter counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Dawson trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Dawson working for a triangle but Carter defends it easily.
Carter trying to control the position from guard on top but Dawson is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Dawson looking for subs off his back but Carter has passed one foot through into half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Carter seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Dawson is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:03 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Arm Triangle). Rick Carter!
