Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Demian Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kazushi Sakuraba!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Maia is defended easily by Sakuraba.
Maia shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Sakuraba as he jumps to the side.
Sakuraba swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Maia.
It looks like Demian Maia has been cut.
Maia tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Sakuraba swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Demian Maia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Sakuraba stuffs the takedown.
Sakuraba connects with a right hand. Maia shakes it off.
Sakuraba throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Maia stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Sakuraba slaps away a takedown attempt from Maia, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Sakuraba moves into the clinch.
Sakuraba lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Sakuraba's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Maia avoids a punch combination nicely.
Maia takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Maia is breathing heavily.
Sakuraba scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Sakuraba moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Sakuraba drops Maia with a right and a left! Sakuraba comes rushing in but Maia regains his composure and manages to keep Sakuraba in guard.
Maia is rocked!
Sakuraba postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Oh Maia is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Sakuraba pushes down on Maia's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Sakuraba has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Sakuraba is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Maia seems to have got his legs back now.
Sakuraba closes the distance and lands a vicious right hand that drops Maia! Sakuraba dives in looking to finish! Maia is still trying to defend himself but he's taking too many shots and the referee has no choice but to stop the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:26 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kazushi Sakuraba!
