Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between James Hopkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Cyril Kivel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for James Hopkin has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, James Hopkin!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 8 - 0, fighting out of New York, Cyril Kivel!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Steve Montenegro and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kivel misses with a double jab

and Hopkin counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Kivel keeping moving, preventing Hopkin from controlling successfully.

Kivel working for a triangle but Hopkin defends it easily.
Hopkin loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

Kivel manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hopkin knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Kivel on the ground.
Kivel lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Kivel stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.

Kivel wants to control from the top but Hopkin keeps moving.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Cyril Kivel wasn't active enough on the ground.
Hopkin defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Kivel.

Hopkin drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Kivel sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Kivel has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
The fighters are battling for position here. Kivel manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Kivel lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Hopkin!
Hopkin on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Hopkin tries to get out of the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Kivel throwing strikes here but Hopkin is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Hopkin really wants to buck Kivel off and get back to his feet.

Kivel goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Hopkin turns into him and now he's in Kivel's guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kivel is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Cyril Kivel will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Hopkin throws a left and a right that both miss

and Kivel counters with a single leg into guard. Hopkin didn't expect that.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kivel stands up from Hopkin's guard - Kivel perhaps looking for a knockout.
Hopkin tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Kivel shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Kivel showed some decent athleticism there.

Kivel seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Hopkin does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Kivel is thwarting Hopkin's attempts to control the position.
Hopkin is in a bad position, trying to hold on for dear life but he is really struggling to maintain any sort of control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hopkin is not content to let Kivel control the position.

Kivel seems to be working for a kimura but Hopkin defends the submission attempt.
Hopkin wants to get back to full guard.
Kivel seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Hopkin tries to roll over but Kivel keeps him under control.
Hopkin preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Hopkin works his way to full guard. Good work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Kivel won't allow Hopkin to sweep him here.
Hopkin looking to control.

Kivel drops back looking for a submission - "I'm sorry sir, but I'm gunna break your leg" says Kivel as he cranks on the unfortunate limb! Hopkin screams and taps out before any major damage is done! Don't mess with Kivel! Nice submission victory there!
