Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troyer Edgecombe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Edgecombe's choice of entrance music: Killling in the Name - Rage Against the Machine. Matt Hughes has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Hughes! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Troyer Edgecombe! The judges for this bout are Matheus Silva, Emerson Jorge and Paulo Santos.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Edgecombe throws a hook but Hughes blocks it. Hughes bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. Edgecombe shoots and misses and Hughes counters with a takedown into side control. Hughes wants to lay and pray for a moment but Edgecombe keeps working. Edgecombe can't do much from the bottom here. Edgecombe tries to get back to half guard but can't. Edgecombe holds on to Hughes's head and controls the position momentarily. Hughes working the ground and pound from side control. Hughes has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
That's one minute gone in the round. Edgecombe throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily. Hughes with a lazy takedown attempt and Edgecombe counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground. Hughes is pulling down on Edgecombe's head to control his posture. Edgecombe stops Hughes from standing up. Hughes keeping moving, preventing Edgecombe from controlling successfully.
That's two minutes gone in the round.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Troyer Edgecombe was stalling too much, according to the referee. Edgecombe tries to land a leg kick but Hughes saw it coming and moves away.
Hughes has his takedown stuffed and Edgecombe counters with a nice body shot. Edgecombe scores with a hook to the body. Hughes takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Edgecombe lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Hughes blocks a jab.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Edgecombe misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Hughes.
Edgecombe finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Hughes needs to keep his hands up - Edgecombe had a free shot at his head there. Hughes tries for a takedown but Edgecombe circles away easily so Edgecombe counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Matt Hughes. That's going to take a lot out of him. Edgecombe wants to control from the top but Hughes keeps moving. Edgecombe looking to pass the guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Hughes has his hands on Edgecombe's head, controlling the position. Edgecombe is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position. Hughes wants to get back to his feet but Edgecombe is in a dominant position and won't allow it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Troyer Edgecombe dominated that round. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.
Edgecombe throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease. Edgecombe throws a sloppy head kick and Hughes moves out of range easily. Troyer Edgecombe seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Edgecombe gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Hughes to score an easy takedown into full guard. Hughes trying to stand up but can't free himself from Edgecombe's guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hughes postures up and lands a big shot to Edgecombe's brow. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Edgecombe looking to control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Edgecombe's head. Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player. Hughes sitting in guard, not really doing much. Edgecombe tries to land a sweep but no joy. Edgecombe manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Hughes wants to control but Edgecombe is having none of it. Edgecombe looking to ground and pound but Hughes is blocking nicely.
That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Edgecombe takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Hughes is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Edgecombe throws some wild stikes that Hughes manages to avoid easily.
Edgecombe swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Hughes is now in Edgecombe's guard. A big mistake from Edgecombe there, giving up the dominant position! Edgecombe working for a triangle but Hughes defends it easily.
Edgecombe is trying to keep Hughes in close.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes wants to control from the top but Edgecombe keeps moving. Edgecombe wants to sweep but no luck. Edgecombe is trying to hold Hughes in close to prevent damage but Hughes has managed to pass into half guard.
Hughes wants to stand up but Edgecombe is controlling the position.
Edgecombe is not content to let Hughes control the position. Hughes is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Edgecombe is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him. Edgecombe looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Edgecombe on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it. Edgecombe is looking to control Hughes's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Edgecombe avoid being mounted? Edgecombe is looking for a sweep. Hughes is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position. Hughes is controlling the pace.
Edgecombe tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Hughes has advanced to mount. Uh oh. Hughes has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Edgecombe's face.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Matt Hughes dominated that second round. That's time! Hughes's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!
Hughes misses with a takedown attempt and Edgecombe counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Edgecombe is just content to waste time from the top position. Hughes takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard. Edgecombe trying to control but Hughes is working from the bottom. Hughes seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Hughes looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Edgecombe trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
That's one minute gone in the round. Hughes keeping moving, preventing Edgecombe from controlling successfully. Hughes pulls Edgecombe in close to prevent any damage. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Matt Hughes just wasn't active enough. Hughes fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Edgecombe sprawls well initially but Hughes persists and gets the takedown into half guard. Edgecombe is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard. Hughes is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Hughes scoring with strikes to the body and head.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hughes looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding. Hughes working the head and body with strikes. Hughes trying to control the action but Edgecombe is working from the bottom. Hughes throwing shots but Edgecombe is blocking nicely. Edgecombe looking for submissions from an awkward position here. Matt Hughes overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Hughes lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears. Hughes tries to stand but his arm is trapped. Edgecombe is trying to get back to full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hughes lands strikes from half guard. Hughes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Hughes lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. Edgecombe is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Hughes pulls his head out easily. Hughes not throwing his punches with enough precision this time. Hughes is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Edgecombe trying to hold on to Hughes's head to control him but Hughes postures up.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Edgecombe tries to roll over but Hughes keeps him under control. Hughes wants to control but Edgecombe is keeping him busy. Hughes is controlling the pace.
Edgecombe is trying to maintain the position but Hughes is very close to passing his half guard. Hughes prevents Edgecombe from improving his position.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Edgecombe misses with a low kick.
And that's the end of the fight! Matt Hughes showed his dominance in that final round. I think Hughes has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
