PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlos Villefort (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Karamazin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karamazin is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Low Rider. Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Carlos Villefort!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Karamazin!
The judges for this bout are Ivan Kurochkin, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karamazin shoots in and bounces Villefort off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Karamazin advances to half guard.
Karamazin tries to pass the half guard into mount. Villefort knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Karamazin working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Villefort's thigh. Villefort counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Karamazin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Villefort is keeping the position for now.
Karamazin works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Karamazin trying to control the action but Villefort is working from the bottom.

Karamazin stops Villefort from getting back to his feet.

Karamazin is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Villefort defends it well.
Karamazin frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Karamazin punching from mount but Villefort doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Villefort is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

Karamazin wants to finish this one by submission but Villefort is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Karamazin.

Karamazin working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.
Karamazin is looking to work his way around to Villefort's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Karamazin swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Villefort is now in Karamazin's guard. A big mistake from Karamazin there, giving up the dominant position!
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Villefort accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Karamazin tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Villefort has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Karamazin has control of Villefort's left arm, preventing Villefort from doing any damage.

Karamazin working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Villefort doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Villefort manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Karamazin is pulling down on Villefort's head to control his posture.

Villefort wants to control from the top but Karamazin keeps moving.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Karamazin shoots in and gets a takedown into Villefort's guard.
Villefort looking to hit a scissor sweep but Karamazin is one step ahead there.
Villefort wants to get back to his feet but Karamazin is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
Karamazin throwing strikes but missing.

Karamazin drops back looking for a leg! Villefort is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Villefort manages to kick Karamazin off! Karamazin jumps back into Villefort's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Karamazin pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Villefort is keeping the position for now.
Karamazin controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Karamazin scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Villefort keeping moving, preventing Karamazin from controlling successfully.
Karamazin makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Karamazin sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Villefort's guard.

Karamazin is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Karamazin is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ivan Karamazin dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!


A jab from Villefort misses.

Karamazin looking for a takedown here - he's got it.
Karamazin stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Villefort swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Villefort keeping moving, preventing Karamazin from controlling successfully.

Villefort trying to keep a closed guard but Karamazin is proving a slippery customer.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Karamazin attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.

Villefort drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Karamazin can't do much from the bottom here.
Check out the look on Villefort's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!
Villefort laying and praying for a moment but Karamazin takes advantage and regains half guard.
Karamazin tries to roll over but Villefort keeps him under control.

Karamazin gets full guard.

Karamazin wriggles free and stands up.
Villefort tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Karamazin counters with a shoot takedown. Villefort fights it but they end up in guard.
Karamazin slips nicely into half guard.

Karamazin is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Villefort has managed to free his arm - good work.

Karamazin wants to work for an arm triangle but Villefort is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Karamazin seems to be looking for submissions.
Ivan Karamazin has got the better of the ground game so far.
Villefort wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Karamazin throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Karamazin is working for a kimura but Villefort is defending it quite comfortably.
Karamazin is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Karamazin quickly switches position and commits to an armbar! It's a big risk for Karamazin but it's paid off an Villefort is forced to tap! Nice work by Karamazin.
