Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Ted Scheckler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derek Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Ted Scheckler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Derek Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Chad Campbell, Dean Styles and Steve Montenegro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Scheckler pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Diaz misses with a left hand
and Scheckler counters with a kick to the head that grazes his opponent. Diaz is lucky that one didn't land flush.
Diaz misses with a double jab.
Scheckler throws a body kick that misses.
Diaz keeping at a good range here, avoiding a leg kick.
Diaz moves in looking to clinch but Scheckler pushes him off.
Scheckler just misses with a punch to the body.

Scheckler throws a nice inside leg kick.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Scheckler tries to work over Diaz's front leg with a kick but Diaz checks it.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Scheckler.

Scheckler feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Scheckler is pushing down on Diaz's leg trying to pass to half guard. Diaz is fighting to maintain full guard but Scheckler has managed to sneak the leg through.
Scheckler seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

Scheckler tries to pass the half guard into mount. Diaz knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Scheckler passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Diaz!

Diaz tries to hold on but Scheckler pushes him away.

Scheckler is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Diaz is surviving well by controlling Scheckler's body position as best he can.

Scheckler moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Diaz has worked his arm free - good work by Diaz!
Diaz is not content to let Scheckler control the position.
Diaz is looking to reverse the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Diaz is trying to escape the position but Scheckler is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Scheckler is looking to take a break and control but Diaz is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Scheckler is staying tight to Diaz's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Scheckler's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Ted Scheckler has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Diaz feints a jab promting Scheckler to slip. Diaz then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Scheckler slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Scheckler throws a solid leg kick but Diaz takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Scheckler.
Diaz rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Scheckler moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

and Scheckler counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Scheckler passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Diaz!
Scheckler takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

BOOM! Scheckler connects with a massive shot to the dome!

Scheckler swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Diaz is now in Scheckler's guard. A big mistake from Scheckler there, giving up the dominant position!

Diaz postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Scheckler is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Diaz, into his guard.

Scheckler is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Diaz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Scheckler slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Ted Scheckler.
Diaz avoids a punch combination nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Diaz avoids a kick to the body.

Scheckler closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Diaz to the mat! Diaz manages to get full guard.

Diaz throws a right and a left that both miss.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Scheckler, right into the meat.
Scheckler lands with a kick to the temple. Diaz shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
Scheckler plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Scheckler throws a low kick but Diaz moves out of range easily.
Diaz throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Scheckler misses with a body kick.
Scheckler feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Diaz's calf.
Diaz throws a right hand that Scheckler ducks under and follows up with a left that Scheckler also avoids with ease.
Diaz scores with a jab to the jaw.
Diaz throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Scheckler.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Diaz gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Scheckler stands and throws Diaz's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Scheckler lands a decent elbow from side control.
Scheckler cracks Diaz with a big right hand but Diaz just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

Scheckler is trying to get an arm triangle but Diaz is defending well.
Scheckler works to advance to full mount. Diaz defends for a few seconds but eventually he succumbs.

Scheckler postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Diaz looks a forlorn figure.
Scheckler avoids the attempt from Diaz to control.
Diaz tries to improve his position but instead Scheckler has taken his back!

Scheckler has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Scheckler biding his time, controlling Diaz.

Scheckler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Derek Diaz has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Ted Scheckler is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Diaz rolls, trying to escape but Scheckler keeps control of the position.
Diaz breaks Scheckler's hooks off and manages to turn into his guard.
Scheckler looking for a sweep. Not yet Scheckler, not yet.

Diaz drops back, looking for a kneebar! Scheckler looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Scheckler looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Scheckler!
Scheckler happy to just control the position for now.

And that's the end of the fight!

Well Scheckler has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
