Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Davey Steeves (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sancho Zola (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Zola has chosen Black Crow On A Tombstone by Satyricon as his entrance music. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Davey Steeves!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sancho Zola!
The judges for this bout are Ren Mimura, Shigeki Fujiwara and Sosuke Kotani.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Good leg kick by Zola there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

Steeves closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Zola did well to prevent Steeves getting side control.
Zola is trying to stand up here but Steeves is controlling him well.
Steeves is looking to advance position but Zola won't allow it.
Steeves wants to take a breather but Zola is having none of it.
Steeves prevents Zola from standing back up.
Zola blocking the ground and pound attempt from Steeves.
Steeves looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.

Steeves with the ground and pound but Zola uses the opportunity to regain guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Steeves accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Zola is looking to stand up but Steeves isn't so interested in that idea.
Zola keeping moving, preventing Steeves from controlling successfully.
Steeves has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Steeves passes into half guard.
Steeves stops Zola from getting back to his feet.

Steeves is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Zola sees it coming and defends easily.

Zola kicks Steeves off and gets back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Steeves shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Zola but Zola pushes him off and we're back to square one.

and Zola decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Steeves's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Steeves trying to keep a closed guard but Zola is proving a slippery customer.
Zola postures up in Steeves's guard and throws a big left but Steeves blocks it.
Zola trying to control the position from guard on top but Steeves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Zolais looking to pass into half guard but Steeves pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Steeves is in guard.

Steeves is working hard here to advance position.

Steeves with a flurry of punches that miss.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Zola keeping moving, preventing Steeves from controlling successfully.
Zola is looking to stand up but Steeves isn't so interested in that idea.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Steeves scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Sancho Zola dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Zola tried to score with a low kick but Steeves checks it.
Zola pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
Zola misses with a lunging right hand

so Steeves counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Steeves stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Zola swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Steeves looking to sit in guard and control but Zola gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Steeves is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Steeves is controlling Zola's posture.

Zola has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steeves is proving hard to escape from.
Zola trying to control the position from guard on top but Steeves is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Zola tries to stand but Steeves is controlling from the bottom.
Zola is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Steeves throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
Steeves bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Zola's guard.
Zola wants to stand and escape but Steeves is having none of it.
Steeves looking to sit in guard and control but Zola gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Steeves looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Zola has picked Steeves up and slammed him! Steeves can't keep hold of the triangle and Zola manages to pass to side control!

Zola working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Zola lands a few punches from side control.
Steeves is looking to regain half guard here but Zola keeps moving and retains side control.

Zola decides to stand back up. Zola steps back and let's Steeves get back to his feet.
Zola throws a hook but Steeves blocks it.

No luck for Steeves with that takedown attempt.

Zola decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Zola wants to take a breather but Steeves is having none of it.
Steeves is trying to maintain the position but Zola is very close to passing his half guard.

Steeves is staying active underneath Zola, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Sancho Zola has got the better of the ground game so far.
Zola wants to stand but his hand is trapped. Steeves uses the opportunity to regain full guard.

Zola has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Steeves is proving hard to escape from.
Zola is breathing heavily.

Steeves is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Zola tries to stand but Steeves is controlling from the bottom.

A close second round but Sancho Zola will probably get the nod - 10:9.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!


Steeves has his takedown stuffed
and he gets countered with a snapping leg kick.
Zola scores with a body shot.
Steeves steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Zola.

Zola shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Zola is looking to take a break and control but Steeves is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Zola working over Steeves with some ground and pound. Steeves looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
Zola winds up and cracks Steeves with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Zola wants to lay and pray for a moment but Steeves keeps working.

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Zola thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Steeves to regain full guard.
Zola is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Zola tries to free his leg and advance position but Steeves is retaining full guard.

Sancho Zola has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Zola misses with a lunging right hand
and Steeves counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Zola's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Zola duly obliges.
Steeves lands with a nice body kick.
Zola clobbers Steeves with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Zola postures up in Steeves's guard and throws a big left but Steeves blocks it.
Zola wants to stand but Steeves has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Steeves looking to control but Zola passes into half guard.
Zola is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Steeves makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Steeves.
Steeves is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Steeves is working for a kimura but Zola is defending it quite comfortably.
Zola is trying to stand.
Steeves thows a huge punch but Zola dodges it nicely.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Steeves throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.

Zola manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Zola misses with a double jab
and Steeves counters with a nice body shot.
Zola misses with a right hand
and Steeves counters with a body kick that stops Zola in his tracks momentarily.
Zola is really struggling to land any decent head shots against his taller opponent.

Zola gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Steeves to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Steeves looking to pass the guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Sancho Zola comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Zola has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
