Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Don Geronimo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jere Ruutikainen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Geronimo comes to the cage accompanied by "War," by Edwin Starr. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
15 - 9 - 1, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Don Geronimo! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jere Ruutikainen! The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Alexandre Firmino and Felipe Paraventi.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Geronimo thows a left - swing and a miss! Geronimo circles away from the clinch attempt and Geronimo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ruutikainen won't be happy with that. Ruutikainen is looking to regain half guard here but Geronimo keeps moving and retains side control. Geronimo slows the pace down. Geronimo working away. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Geronimo controlling from side mount. Ruutikainen tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Geronimo wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
That's one minute gone in the round. Geronimo trying to control the position but Ruutikainen is working away. Geronimo tries to move into full mount but can't pass Ruutikainen's legs. Geronimo controls the position. Geronimo is looking to take a break and control but Ruutikainen is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Ruutikainen can't do much from the bottom here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Don Geronimo. Geronimo decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard. Ruutikainen keeping hold of Geronimo's head, controlling as best he can. Ruutikainen wants to improve his position but Geronimo is controlling well.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Geronimo is controlling the pace.
Geronimo seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruutikainen for as long as he can get away with. The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground. Geronimo misses with a takedown and Ruutikainen connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Geronimo shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Geronimo was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure! Ruutikainen is writhing around trying to get back to his feet. Geronimo controlling from mount. Ruutikainen tries to hold on but Geronimo pushes him away. Ruutikainen sneaks a leg under to get to half guard. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruutikainen closes the distance but Geronimo moves to the side and Geronimo counters with a single leg into guard. Ruutikainen didn't expect that. Ruutikainen tries to land a sweep but no joy. Ruutikainen seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now. Ruutikainen is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Ruutikainen keeping moving, preventing Geronimo from controlling successfully. Ruutikainen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Jere Ruutikainen wasn't active enough on the ground. Ruutikainen closes the distance looking to clinch and Geronimo counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ruutikainen won't be happy with that. Geronimo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruutikainen keeps working. A lull in the action here.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Ruutikainen is trying to control Geronimo's posture but Geronimo avoids it. Ruutikainen looking for a sweep but Geronimo has passed into full mount! Oh no! Geronimo looking to control and managing it successfully.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruutikainen wants to control but Geronimo is having none of it. Geronimo thowing shots but they're missing. Geronimo takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup. Ruutikainen tries to hold on but Geronimo pushes him away. Geronimo sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. Ruutikainen wants to control but Geronimo is having none of it. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ruutikainen looks to clinch and Geronimo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ruutikainen's guard now. Ruutikainen wants to sweep here but Geronimo controlling him for the moment. Ruutikainen is pulling down on Geronimo's head. It's preventing any offense from Geronimo, at least for the moment. Geronimo pushing down on Ruutikainen's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work. Geronimo controlling the action here. Geronimo wants to pass to mount but Ruutikainen is defending the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Ruutikainen is controlling Geronimo's trapped leg to prevent Geronimo from advancing to side control. Geronimo wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ruutikainen keeps working. Geronimo wants to free his trapped foot but Ruutikainen is holding on for dear life with his legs.
That's two minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Ruutikainen is not content to let Geronimo control the position.

Ruutikainen throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Geronimo sees it coming and avoids it easily. Ruutikainen closes the distance looking to clinch and Geronimo counters with a shoot takedown. Ruutikainen fights it but they end up in guard. Geronimo looking to pass the guard. Geronimo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Ruutikainen is trying to control the position but Geronimo postures up. Geronimo stopping the sweep attempt from Ruutikainen. Ruutikainen trying to control the position.
Don Geronimo is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Jere Ruutikainen has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet. Geronimo shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Ruutikainen defends it nicely. Geronimo fails with the takedown and Ruutikainen counters with a nice uppercut. Jere Ruutikainen has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Ruutikainen misses with an uppercut
and Geronimo counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Ruutikainen's guard now. Ruutikainen striking off his back but it's not causing Geronimo any problems. Geronimo's corner is telling him to maintain position. Ruutikainen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Geronimo doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Geronimo manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
And that's the end of the fight! Don Geronimo showed his dominance in that final round. Well I reckon that's a shut out for Geronimo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
