Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
20 - 12 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Wes Welker! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Albert Ashton! The judges for this bout are Donatello Bradman, Steve Erwin and Damien Edna.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Welker throws a body punch but Ashton moves out of range. The fighters circling - Welker throws out the jab but it was never going to land. Welker thows a left - swing and a miss! Ashton changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Welker looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Welker is trying to improve his position. Ashton throws an elbow but Welker slips to the side and avoids it well. Welker wants to control but Ashton postures up. Welker manages to get one leg in to regain half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Ashton is working for a submission of some sort.
Ashton is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Welker looking to work for a kimura from the bottom. Ashton is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Welker has managed to free his arm - good work. Welker tries to get to full guard but Ashton has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Welker keeping control of the position. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Ashton is trying to work for a kimura but Welker is defending well.
Welker is trying to control but can't.
Ashton looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult. Ashton is working for a kimura but Welker is defending it quite comfortably.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace. Ashton is trying to work for a kimura but Welker is defending well.
Ashton wants to work for an arm triangle but Welker is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Ashton throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage. Welker moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard. Ashton won't allow Welker to sweep him here. Ashton drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ashton jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Welker looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Welker working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ashton doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Oh but Welker is tightening it up a little... Ashton has to be careful here... He's got his foot tucked under now, this looks tight! Ashton reacted too slowly and this one could be over in a matter of seconds! YES! Ashton taps out! nice BJJ there by Welker!
