PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brandon Duscaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Richardson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Duscaw comes to the cage accompanied by "I am the Walrus" by The Beatles. Richardson has chosen This Calling by All That Remains as his entrance music. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Brandon Duscaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Richardson!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Wesley Smith and Gwen Towbar.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Richardson throws a head kick that misses

and Duscaw counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Richardson's guard now.
Duscaw trying to control but Richardson is working from the bottom.
Duscaw trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Duscaw misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Duscaw thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The strikes coming from Duscaw are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
The referee asks Duscaw politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Duscaw prefers to stall for the moment though.

Duscaw tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Richardson might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Duscaw kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Duscaw tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Duscaw has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Richardson manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Duscaw is trying to control. Richardson wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Duscaw in particular looking to stall.

Duscaw is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Richardson sees it coming and defends easily.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Richardson is pressing down on Duscaw's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Nate Richardson was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Duscaw shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Richardson as he avoids it easily.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Richardson counters with a nice uppercut.
Duscaw tries for a takedown but Richardson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Richardson feints a jab promting Duscaw to slip. Richardson then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Duscaw slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.


It looks like Brandon Duscaw has been cut.
Duscaw dives in and grabs Richardson's left leg, looking for a takedown. Richardson pushes down on Duscaw's head and hops out.

Duscaw is trying hard to land a takedown here. Richardson sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Duscaw is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Richardson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Duscaw goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Richardson has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Duscaw but great work by Richardson.

Richardson decides to stand up, so the ref orders Duscaw to his feet.

Horrible takedown by Duscaw or perhaps it was just good defense by Richardson which made him look bad.

Duscaw seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Richardson does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Duscaw is looking to take a break and control but Richardson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

Brandon Duscaw is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Richardson is in a world of trouble here. He's outmatched on the ground here and he'd better get Duscaw off his back sharpish unless he wants to be submitted.

Duscaw has got his arm under Richardson's chin working for the choke… has he got it? It looks pretty tight! Oh! Richardson has spun round into Duscaw's guard beautifully! Well done that man!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Duscaw, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
