The bell rings for round one and we are underway! A head kick from Roosevelt lands but Takagi takes it in his stride. Roosevelt goes for a high kick. It partially lands. Takagi avoids the head kick by Roosevelt.
Roosevelt tries to clinch but Takagi is having none of it. Roosevelt throws a head kick that misses and Takagi counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt. Jab from Takagi. Roosevelt throws a mid kick that lands with a slap. Takagi misses the jab. Takagi walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Roosevelt checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side. Roosevelt tried to score with a low kick but Takagi checks it. Roosevelt throws a leg kick and Takagi counters with a nice double leg into side control. Roosevelt won't be happy with that. The crowd are loving this. Great action here. Roosevelt tries to bench press Takagi off him but Takagi keeps the position. You can see the frustration on Roosevelt's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

A low kick from Roosevelt misses and Takagi counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Roosevelt thinking. No luck with that takedown attempt from Roosevelt. Takagi's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down. Roosevelt misses with a straight left. Roosevelt drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Roosevelt is trying to get an arm triangle but Takagi is defending well.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Roosevelt wants to control but Takagi is keeping him busy. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Roosevelt tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Roosevelt sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Takagi is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.

That's six minutes gone in the round. There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action. Takagi is looking to escape. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Takagi can do anything to dispel that myth. Roosevelt missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Roosevelt is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Takagi is just riding it out for now. Roosevelt eventually gives up the hold. Takagi is looking to improve his position.

A much better position for Takagi. Roosevelt passes easily into side control. Nice work. Takagi is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Takagi defending against the ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Roosevelt wants to lay and pray for a moment but Takagi keeps working. Roosevelt goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Takagi has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Roosevelt but great work by Takagi. Roosevelt tries to get back to half guard but can't. Roosevelt regains half guard. Takagi postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Roosevelt to stand up.
That's nine minutes gone in the round. Takagi takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh. Takagi lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Roosevelt throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Roosevelt shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A head kick misses from Takagi. Roosevelt throws a solid leg kick but Takagi takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Roosevelt. Roosevelt doesn't succeed with the takedown and Takagi makes him pay by landing a nice hook to the body before moving out of range. As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Takagi throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Roosevelt on the side of the head. Roosevelt throws a body kick despite being completely out of range and Takagi makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Takagi has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Takagi and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Roosevelt throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land. Takagi keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Roosevelt connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there. Roosevelt throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena. Roosevelt goes for a high kick. It partially lands.

Roosevelt shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Takagi as he avoids it easily. A low kick from Roosevelt is predictable there and Takagi counters with a left to the body. Roosevelt lands a nice looking kick to the body. Takagi takes a step back to recover. Roosevelt shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Takagi defends it nicely. A chopping leg kick lands by Roosevelt. Roosevelt shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Roosevelt was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Roosevelt cracks Takagi with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Roosevelt tries to control but Takagi wriggling away. Roosevelt sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it! Roosevelt thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!

Roosevelt has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission. Takagi is squirming around, avoiding Roosevelt's attempts to control the action. Roosevelt working the ground and pound effectively.
Frank Roosevelt overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Roosevelt dominating with strikes here. Roosevelt connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd. Roosevelt throwing shots from mount but they're not landing. Roosevelt is landing with some decent strikes but Takagi is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Takagi manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action. Roosevelt has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
