PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jakub Karet (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alexis Krobanov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Karet kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ill Bill - My Uncle Shoots Heroin. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jakub Karet!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Alexis Krobanov!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Paulsen Ambrosius.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Karet has closed the distance and engaged Krobanov in a clinch.
Nice elbow from Karet.
Krobanov looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Karet will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Krobanov up against the cage.
Karet comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.


It looks like Alexis Krobanov has been cut.
Karet prevents Krobanov from breaking the clinch.
Karet throws an elbow that misses.
Karet is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Krobanov gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Karet has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Krobanov avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Krobanov breaks from the clinch.
Karet tries to close the distance and clinch up but Krobanov swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Krobanov drops Karet with a nice combination! Krobanov dives into Karet's guard, looking to finish!

It looks like Jakub Karet has been cut.
Krobanov wants to get up but he can't break Karet's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Oh Karet is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Karet looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Karet seems to have got his legs back now.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Krobanov postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Karet working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Krobanov.

Krobanov avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Karet is looking for a triangle but Krobanov pushes his legs off easily.
Krobanov tries to stand but Karet is controlling from the bottom.
Karet controls Krobanov momentarily but Krobanov frees himself.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Karet had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Krobanov defends it easily.
Krobanov wants to stand but Karet is controlling his posture from full guard.

Karet is looking for a triangle but Krobanov pushes his legs off easily.

Karet looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Krobanov throwing strikes but missing.

Krobanov trying to control but Karet is working from the bottom.

Karet is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Krobanov trying to control the position from guard on top but Karet is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Krobanov is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Krobanov throwing strikes from guard but Karet blocks nicely.
Karet wants to sweep here but Krobanov controlling him for the moment.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Karet is looking for a triangle but Krobanov pushes his legs off easily.
Krobanov slips nicely into half guard.
Krobanov looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Karet with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Krobanov wants to lay and pray for a moment but Karet keeps working.
Krobanov lands with a punch from half guard.
Krobanov not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Karet gets full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alexis Krobanov dominated that round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Krobanov ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Karet moves away.
Karet shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Krobanov pinned against the cage. Krobanov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Krobanov connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Karet will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
A jab from Krobanov does it's job there.
Krobanov fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Karet manages to avoid it.
Karet shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Krobanov as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jakub Karet. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Krobanov throws a right and a left that both miss.
Karet slips a straight right by Krobanov.
Krobanov throws a good cross that connects.
Karet shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Krobanov defends it nicely.
Karet takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.


Jakub Karet's cut is getting worse.
Karet tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in the close the distance. Krobanov manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Karet is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
I'm just looking down at my notes here and I see that.... oh! Krobanov has cracked Karet with a big right, followed by a left! He's out on his feet! Krobanov lands another huge swinging hook and Karet tumbles to the canvas! The ref dives in to save Karet, before Krobanov can land any more shots!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:12 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Alexis Krobanov!
