PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Shawn Cook (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Pat Stay (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Shawn Cook!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Pat Stay!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Yves DeLean.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Cook closes the distance looking to clinch
and Cook takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Cook misses with a takedown
and Stay counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Cook throws a combination that misses
and Stay counters with a nice uppercut.
Cook shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stay but Stay pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Cook changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stay tries to avoid it but Cook manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stay to the ground. Stay escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Shawn Cook. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cook feints and as Stay raises his hands in defense, Cook changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Cook postures up in Stay's guard and throws a big left but Stay blocks it.

Stay really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Cook. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Stay is defended easily by Cook.
Cook tries to clinch but Stay moves out of range.
Nice sprawl there from Stay as Cook shoots in.

Cook fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Stay to the ground. Cook is now in Stay's guard.
Cook lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Cook stands up over Stay, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Cook seems like he's working for an arm triangle here. He's freed his trapped foot and he's rotating nicely. Stay is in big trouble! He's tapping out! This one is aaaaaaaaaaaall over!
