Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Alex Voss (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jesu Pena (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jesu Pena will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alex Voss!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jesu Pena!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Voss shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Voss showed some decent athleticism there.
Pena is trying to get back to full guard.
Voss thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Voss stops Pena from getting back to his feet.
Voss looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Voss really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Voss has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Voss is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!
Voss has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Pena's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Pena is trying to escape the mount.

Voss wants to finish this one by submission but Pena is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Voss.
Pena keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Voss throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.

Pena is in all sorts of trouble here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Voss seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Pena for as long as he can get away with.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Voss shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Voss's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Voss here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

Alex Voss overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Voss has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Pena throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Pena tries to sprawl but Voss drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Still in half guard, Voss seems content to control.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Alex Voss.

Alex Voss is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Pena throws a left and a right that both miss

so Voss counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Pena not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Pena controls Voss momentarily but Voss frees himself.

Voss throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Pena was covering up waiting for the punch and Voss finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pena is looking for a triangle but Voss pushes his legs off easily.
Pena not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Voss is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Voss slips nicely into half guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's hear some noise people - this is the final round!



Voss instigates a clinch.
Voss is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Pena can do to turn this around?
Pena wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.
Voss drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Pena gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Pena breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Voss goes for a takedown in the clinch but Pena prevents it.

Pena pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Pena keeps the fight on the outside.
Pena misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Voss gets a takedown into half guard.
Voss passes to side control.
Voss is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Pena takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Pena can't do much from the bottom here.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Voss wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Pena connects with a high kick.
Pena pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Pena tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Pena displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Voss.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alex Voss. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Voss shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Pena lands with a slapping head kick.

Voss drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Voss tries to free his leg and advance position but Pena is retaining full guard.
Pena looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Voss puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Pena tries to roll over but Voss keeps him under control.

Pena leaves Voss with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No joy there for Pena, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Voss shoots in but Pena avoids the takedown attempt easily.

and Voss counters with a takedown into side control.

Pena is looking to regain half guard here but Voss keeps moving and retains side control.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Alex Voss wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Pena tries to clinch but Voss moves out of range.
Jesu Pena has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Alex Voss is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Voss shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Pena manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Alex Voss showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Voss, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
