Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Carsten Brian Kassler! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
5 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Nik Nechvidov! The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Valeri Chadov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nechvidov misses with a takedown attempt and Kassler counters with a single leg into guard. Nechvidov didn't expect that. Nechvidov looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight! Kassler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Kassler pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Nechvidov is keeping the position for now. Kassler is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Nechvidov has his takedown stuffed and Kassler counters with a nice double leg into half guard. Kassler wants to work for an arm triangle but Nechvidov is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
That's one minute gone in the round. Kassler controlling the action here. The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Kassler feints and as Nechvidov raises his hands in defense, Kassler changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Kassler engaging in some classic timewasting tactics. Kassler seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Nechvidov for as long as he can get away with.
The ref stands the fighters back up because Carsten Brian Kassler just wasn't active enough. Kassler closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Nechvidov to the mat! Nechvidov manages to get full guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Kassler sitting in guard here, content to control. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Kassler tries to free his leg and advance position but Nechvidov is retaining full guard. Kassler looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
The ref stands the fighters back up. Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Nechvidov gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Kassler controlling from the top position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Nechvidov can't keep his opponent in guard - Kassler advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Kassler lands a nice short elbow. Kassler content to control rather than advance. Kassler has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carsten Brian Kassler dominated that round. The cut man is working on Nik Nechvidov's cut. That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.
Kassler shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Kassler content to control rather than advance. Nechvidov is breathing heavily.

Carsten Brian Kassler has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet. Nechvidov gets caught napping as Kassler dives in and scores a takedown. Nechvidov manages to retain guard. Kassler is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound. Nechvidov can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kassler controls the pace. Kassler drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Kassler jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position. Kassler advances position into side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nechvidov is trying to escape the position but Kassler is controlling the position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Kassler shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Nechvidov is trying to defend but Kassler finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further. Kassler content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

We're going to have a standup here because Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't active enough for the referee's liking. Nechvidov tries to sprawl but Kassler drives through with a takedown into half guard. Kassler trying to control the pace. Kassler landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Kassler takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carsten Brian Kassler dominated that second round. The cut man is working on Nik Nechvidov's cut. The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.
Kassler bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. Kassler creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots. Nechvidov tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Kassler wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control. You can see the frustration on Nechvidov's face as Kassler controls the position. Carsten Brian Kassler overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far. Kassler advances to full mount. Nechvidov is trying to escape the mount.
Kassler controlling from mount. Kassler's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Nechvidov takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
That's one minute gone in the round. We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Carsten Brian Kassler. Nechvidov checks a low kick from Kassler. Kassler closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Nechvidov is letting Kassler control him for a moment. Kassler scores with a couple of short elbows. Nechvidov trying to remain calm as Kassler controls from the top position. Nechvidov stops Kassler from passing to mount. Kassler controlling from side mount.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Carsten Brian Kassler wasn't doing enough on the ground. Nechvidov moves to clinch but Kassler breaks away and Kassler counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Kassler. Kassler sitting in guard, not really doing much.

Kassler darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. Kassler keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
And that's the end of the fight! Carsten Brian Kassler showed his dominance in that final round. Well Kassler has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today.
